We take photos to show others what we saw. Why bring AI into the photo and lie about what we photographed? Be honest about your photography.

First of all, the photos we take are edited in some fashion, whether that is in-camera lighting or cropping or color enhancement. It may not be what we saw, but what we want what we saw to be. Second, while I am not a fan of AI, having used it in my last job, it does, with the right description by the person asking for it, generate some awesome images. So, in a real sense, it is a creative display of the description by the "creator." If you only want to show your work as a photographer, that's fine. But to deny that AI is in any way an art form is false. Like I said, I don't like it because it hampers my image-making creativity. But it has made me a more concise author who now pays more attention to the written detail.

No, it’s an image - an image could be a photograph, a painting or an AI creation. To view an image it does not need to be a photograph.

Being sarcastic I was.

Some take photos to create.

Sorry, missed that! Think I’ll go quietly back to Digital Artistry, it’s so peaceful over there!

As already mentioned, there is a solution here. I am in two camera clubs and one also added a new category that is reserved for AI/Creative images. They will be shown, but not scored. The guideline is that 'all pixels must come from an image you took in your camera'. Thus a sky added must be a sky that you took, etc. Since there is no way to completely insure adherence, we are openly saying that you are personally responsible. The other club is investigating similar actions, but still being discussed.
Fun times ahead...

So just how do you prove that a sky (or some other element) was contributed by someone else? Skies are constantly changing. Is the photographer innocent until proven guilty? And just how would proof of guilt be determined? Can you subpoena the photographer's computer?

I don't see that as a solution. I see it as something like a HOA regulation. Only there for looks.

YES, AI can be called an art form but at least be honest about what kind of art you are putting out their. Don't say "This is my painting" or "This is my photograph" if you used AI to "make" it. Say "It's AI generated." or "AI used with my photo as a background...or part of the image is a photo I shot". Kudos to honesty!

I believe the UHH Community Forum is a social venue where people across the world can communicate and share their common interests regardless of what they are. Yes, photography topics and posted images make up the bulk of the posts.

UHH is a site where mature adults benefit from the connections they make here so its value is more than showcasing one's photography. Many live alone and UHH may perhaps be one of their few social connections. It is also a valuable resource where one can keep their mind and creativity active which is important as we age so using graphic programs to enhance, edit, and completely create are important and should not be discouraged.

I'll step down from my soap box now.

Hmmm...
User created with the aid of a camera;
user created with the aid of an editor;
user created with the aid of AI.
Just another tool for a user to utilize?
In a few years AI will be commonplace and accepted,
whether we like it or not.

And there will still be those, until attrition overcomes, that say "Phht, that's not a photo.".

Indeed, the widely venerated Ansel Adams was explicit that, quite regularly if not inevitably, if you were there when he snapped the shutter, you would not recognize what you had seen in what you saw in his print.

Lier, Lier, my pants are on fire. Dead tree, not there in original, pine trees in background, AI added, sky, yep you bet, added! OUCH, my crouch hurts just thinking about it. Not to mention Haze removal, contrast added in RAW.

So The results, as a work of photographic art, are estimable. Here: 💰💰💰💰💰
