Isn't everything that comes out of a digital camera AI (to an extent)?

Yes, an erroneous statement made would be a lie.
Simply presenting an image with no accompanying statement is not a lie.
The viewer may deduce that the image is untrue. But it is simply an image.
If someone draws an image of a pterodactyl flying through the air, is it a lie?
If he says he saw one last week, that would be a lie.
Would it matter if the image was drawn with a pen or made with a "photograph"?

Quite, but if it was posted here as a photograph it would be a lie.

If you are combining photos you took its not AI
In the darkroom I once put a Tiger in a Photo I took at the Botanical Garden. No computer involved!!

So one figment of imagination is different from another?
Put a photo of my house I take carefully placed on the edge of a cliff with a carefully placed ocean at the base with a cloudy sky added is just fine because I took all the photos and I have no obligation to say that I made the whole thing up to make my house look more interesting in the photo?
I took all the photos so they are all mine thus there is no need to say anything because it is my photo being presented.

Really, that's the best the hen house has to cluck about this weekend? This social site isn't even really a photography site, so who cares about the occasional image, and its source ....

Is this really you or your AI talking?

No one cares...except some photographers.

The market likes AI...and is going to be in full swing pretty soon.

The photographer does not make the market...the photographer adapts to the market.

Most will adapt...some will not...and the market will treat them...accordingly.

I would call that an extreme SOOC position.

How about if we create an AI image and take a photo of it. Is that OK?

Absolutely, it is a photo.
Thus meets the definition of a photo and no explanation at all is required.

No, no implication, simply erroneous inferences.

If someone posts in the Photo Gallery or enters a photo contest, etc. the implication is that it’s a photo.

Define a photo.

I would say, as a regular contributor to the Digital Artistry section with my composites, that there is definitely an obligation to either state it’s a composite or to post it where everyone knows it will be a composite. I’m sure you’d do one or the other, I don’t think you’d set out to deceive.

Perception...

Just because it's posted here means that, by definition of its existence here, it's a photograph?

Or is it a perception or inference.

Have a problem with AI not accepted as photography. It is a form of photography. If you don’t care for it just move on and stop being a purist. Photographers have been creative with their photography before modern AI.

I post in multiple sections. Depending on what I am presenting. The gallery for my “ straight photo”. Digital Artistry for my composites and FYI, for feed back on a particular image. For me the all serve a purpose.
There is no size fits all. On one of the threads someone commented on being tired of seeing flowers all the time. My thought was if the title indicated it was a flower shot than do not open it.
Just like there are no new jokes only a variation on a theme. There are no new photographic subjects, only a variation.
For me AI is another tool. Use or not, that is for the individual to decide. But be sure it is not going away.
