What is the brand name of the tripod ?
I have never seen a tripod branded by Nikon nor one sold even under their name. So a 90% likelihood it is a arca swiss plate (which you will/would never see advertised on Nikon's site) or maybe some other plate that is specific to the tripod brand. Worst scenario, if the plate is a special, is replacing the head and including the plate. Your best bet, since several members have managed to muddy the waters, is to either list the tripod brand name or add a photo.

Lots of argument on this topic, but by way of example, I bought a cheap tripod at Goodwill because I didn’t want to mess with my gear for this particular job. $10, and I’m over it.
To the point, the tripod has a custom quick release plate, unique to it or the brand. Tripod won’t work without it, and there’s no alternative.
Sometimes stuff happens.

Every tripod I have come across always has some method of removing the head (and any special quick release plate) and allowing subsequent use with a generic swiss arca head/plate system. So there are alternatives you just have to be a little more adventurous.
The only reason why a few now produce their own special quick release systems is because they hope you will become hooked on theirs and buy loads of them. Their marketing people need to get out more.
There is no argument on this subject other than the 10% who always argue about anything on principle or entertainment.

I would post a pics, lots of people know certain equipment. Or check in eBay. Sometimes google don’t find it but eBay does

If this plate looks verrrrrry familiar then Nikon was just rebadging Zomei tripods.

Contact the DEALER that BOUGHT your camera with the tripod plate attached NOT the dealer where YOU bought the tripod 10 yrs ago.

I would go so far as guessing that the bottom of the plate (that slides into the locking mechanism on the tripod) is a swiss arca fitting. A quick trip to your nearest camera would confirm, if this is the case, in about 3 seconds.
I have never seen a Nikon branded tripod but then we live out in the sticks.
Anyway once you know that it is maybe a Komei relabelled then you could do this -
Type into google "is the zomei tripod camera plate a swiss arca"
My first hit said this "Made of high quality aluminum. The max diameter is about 25mm very steady. 3-Way Swivel Fluid Head with a Arca Swiss compatible clamp easily to put on and off. And can work for most of cameras."
So problem solved since a generic swiss arca plate is only a few dollars.
I just did a casual search of Nikons international site and could find no reference to Nikon supplied tripods. I wonder if it was something that only Nikon US did in an effort to either 'be all things to all people' or to cash in on brand snobs ?
