Anti-theft camera strap

I made one using vinly covered wire like the type used in dog leashes. A couple of clamps and clips from the hardware store and it's done. I used it when traveling to Europe a few years back. It sits in parallel to the regular shoulder strap. I ditched the Nikon advertising strap to avoid showing the world the value of my camera. I agree with the comment about the danger of strangulation without a break away ability but to me the risk was worth it.

Why did you say that ?

He said it because he’s a fool.

I have been looking in vain for an Anti-theft camera strap. PacSafe used to make one but no longer does. Does anyone know of any other company that makes them?

If the thief wants your camera, they will get it one way or another!! If it is of that great a concern, leave the camera home. It will be better for your mental atttitude, all the eway around.

I have this model and it is comfortable and works great.
You can adjust the position of the camera (closer to the body) quickly with a single pull-down strap.

The urban myth that some evil doer is going to identify your new Nikon Z8 camera as some high value item seems a bit absurd. Bad guy comes along and, using very deft knife handling skills, cut your camera strap and run off to the nearest cartel member who is looking to buy high end cameras to sell at some high dollar camera broker.

Here's reality. People who commit street crimes are thugs. They may be under the influence of drugs or simply bad guys. they do not know Nikon from Canon. They do know Rolex. They will either try to steal any item surreptitiously or by force. If it is surreptitious, then to protect your gear, keep it with you. Dont leave it on a table or unattended. If the theft is by force, then you have a new set of tactical issues...namely the suspect may be armed. There have been robberies (theft through force or fear) in San Fran where camera crews have had gear taken. If that is going to happen, more than your precious camera is going to be taken...watches, wallets, etc. Your goal, at this point, is survival, not retention of your stuff.

When dealing with criminals, things get dicey...they know their intentions and you have to react. Do you you want to be fighting or being drug down the street over a camera that is secured around your body? I would not. Do you want to resist? Then you have to be prepared mentally, physically, logistically, legally and tactically to do so. Not many people are.

A theft resistant strap, IMO, adds nothing to your or your camera's security.

Fear is only as deep as the mind allows.

When a guy is a jerk, and has been one for years, he needs to be called out. Including me!

Yes, and a lot of them aren't very smart.

Or pushed a black and white for a number of years.

Btw, the best way to avoid camera theft is to carry Oly gear. I can leave it anywhere anytime and no one touches it. M4/3 phobia I suppose. One time a guy pulled a gun on me and made me take an Oly. It’s now my only system.
