I’m amazed at the bum kissing of poor old Jimbo, when threatening to take his marbles & go home.
For my part in the critique, I have no malice, only a comment on the repetition of similar pics. I might add they’re not bad pics.
But if one posts pics for any reason, on a forum, & it attracts comments, good or bad, if one can’t stand the heat, one should stay out of the kitchen, as confusous (that Chinese guy) used to say.
I have had my share of criticism over the years I’ve been member, even got rubbed out for some petty misdemeanour, but my penance has been accepted & I watch my Ps&Qs.
Photography is the reason I like this forum, but it’s certainly not a Mutual Admiration Society on some sections.
IE: The Attic, but thin skin is not an asset.
So Jim, if it makes any difference, I’m one to say Sorry if I upset you. Great pics.

Poster's on quite a few sections on UHH seem to crave only positive feedback; even when not warranted. Photography, as with all art, is matter of opinion and it seems that if that opinion is not of a glowing nature, offense is often taken. The often used comments - "if you don't like it, don't view it" or "post your own work" seem a little naïve. The whole point of a forum is for shared views and feedback which can only ever be positive/negative or neutral in nature. Perhaps those that take offense or seek only positive opinion should post with a disclaimer: "only positive views accepted." To me that would sort of negate the whole point of sharing images and opinions, though.

Bunko and Paul.

There are critique categories on this forum. This category is not labeled as a critique site. I suggest on these non-critique categories, unless the poster requests feedback, you should keep your big mouths shut.

JD, ALL Churlish Oaf's like these two should not be heard or even seen!!!!! Their work may be absolutely beautiful, but that does not preclude that they are critic's in ANY SENCE OF THE WORD!!!

When I taught photography, my critique's NEVER assaulted anyone, on the contrary, they were to help the student to see what ELSE was there, BUT, only as a suggestion!

Hey Bunko,
I agree with you but, except that I do not see Butt kissing going on here. I cannot speak for Jim, but, we as members do or should encourage each other as this is what I see here. Jjm has basically kept this topic alive daily.
So what if he posts mostly beach shots ! So what, that was his environment for the most part obviously and he stated it and why before. Other topics here, for example, had posts by member(s) of mostly if not exclusively, say, beach and surfing images. No cry babies there.
So I do not see Butt kissing but members not liking another member to be pissed on by another.
Me? I have calmed down a lot this past year but still I do not run from a fight, I fight back.
Constructive criticism should be welcomed if requested by the OP.
Well the coffee is licking in, better close.
Good reply though sir.
Bruce.

Perhaps do your homework before sprouting off. I have not critiqued his work! And, as I have said; if an individual chooses to post material on a public platform, by that very action they will more often than not attract comment.

Me? A critic? You need to do your homework too, mate, before putting your big foot in it!

Lighten up people, my only comment on Jim’s posts, was not about his photos, but about the repetitive nature of them. Why do we post pics on a forum if it’s not to entertain or seek comments on them??
All I said was there was too many of the same style, & in fact, that they weren’t bad pics, IMHO.
As for bum kissing, well pampering in the littoral sense. Constructive critique is sought by the simple act of posting on a public forum? If I post a pic or story, as I have in past, & some one takes issue with it, I take it for what it’s worth. I’ve had great help in some cases, & been called a wanker in others. At 78 years, I’ve seen good & bad times. I’ve helped where I can & ignored the vitriol aimed at me. I get the feeling, having read most of the comments on Jim’s posts, that we two “Churlish Oafs” are the only two from Western Australia. And yet there were numerous negative comments from your part of the world. There seems to be a hint of paranoia there.
I’ve never met Paul, but he sounds like another decent thinking guy. I smiled at seeing the Paul & Bunko tag in a snipe at us. Hints of Bonnie & Clyde maybe Starsky & Hutch.
As I said at the start, Lighten up, life is too short to let our brains go to sleep.

Stay, Stay, your work is astounding and appreciated. If the losers don’t like your posts that’s their misfortune. Ignore the idiots they’re not worth even thinking about. Stay Jim!!

However, I’m not sure you understood my reply. I wasn’t implying you did or did not critique Mr Tonne. My point was, critique is fine on the critique sections of UHH. On the non-critique sections, critique should be withheld unless requested by the OP.

This is also a theme in the section rules on UHH, for example: The Photo Gallery section rules state: “If you want to ask others to comment on your choice of subjects, composition, settings, show off your pictures to others, or ask for general critique, then please do so in the Photo Gallery section.“

Please note the word “ask” appears twice. And why is that?

You clearly don't even realise what you wrote previously. Your comment - "I suggest on these non-critique categories, unless the poster requests feedback you keep your big mouths shut." That is clearly directed, in part, at me and rather offensive and presumptuous seeing I did not even offer a critique? Plus, it is not your position to dictate terms of who can say what and when. General chit chat is the point of a forum. You seriously mean to say that if someone offered a suggestion or advice on a particular post they can only do so in the "critique" section? Come on; get real, and don't be so petty!

Good one Jim, beautiful young lady. And it’s refreshingly not the beach. A question if I may, is this model the same one on the beach??
We’ll miss you. Loved your pics.
