The guides in Costa Rica, at all of the National Parks, are outstanding with phones and spotting monoculars. They got some distant sloths, all crystal clear. Pretty amazing.

I have pics from my Samsung S 22 Ultra with 5 cameras and yes they look great for a phone. When I take the same pic with my phone and Z9 I'm sorry but no comparison in my opinion. You can only crop very small with the phone and I can crop to the eye lashes on my Z9.

Some people think you are suggesting that your iPhone 14 Pro is of better quality than your Nikons.

I read your post as you have perhaps changed your subject matter and shooting habits for the most part, to not require the technology and glass of the Nikon's.

I too have an iPhone 14 Pro and found that 90% of my shots any longer are with my iPhone. However, on certain missions, I still do have a need for my Z9 and D850 and all of the lenses.

Not ready to shed the Nikons but understand your switch.

There is little point discussing whether smartphone photography or traditional digital photography is superior. The fundamental question is whether or not a smartphone meets a photog's needs. The thousands (millions?) of serious photogs who are switching to smartphones aren't stupid. They know the capabilities of traditional cameras and smartphones, and have concluded that smartphones meet most of their needs. If someone wants to stick with traditional cameras to be able to crop to sharp eyelashes, wonderful! Stick with what you are happy with to meet your needs! Life is full of compromises, and there is no photography system that is perfect for everyone in all situations. Live and let live.

It's just the beginning...at some point...it will all integrate seamlessly.

It's probably the next step for long shooting...almost no gear...seriously good optics.

It's coming...

Lots of info. here. Quite frankly, I didn’t want to lug my equipment on my travels. I am limited with my phone but most of my photos on vacation are wide angle and the iPhone 14 takes some pretty good photos for that.

I do believe telephoto will get better with iPhones over time. Just think of the improvement in photos over the last ten years!
