I watched the launch live...I was 10.

I got to see two Saturn V's go off in person...pretty heady stuff when ur just 10 years old.

Good shots. How well I remember them. Armstrong in that photo saying, "I'm going to step off the LEM, now," Cronkite almost in tears and, of course, a politician taking away Armstrong's and Aldrin's precious time on the moon to score a few political points from something he had absolutely nothing to do with.

This happened on my dad's 74th birthday. As far as he was concerned, this was done especially for him.

He was amazed at human progress. As a child on a farm in southern MN, everything was done with muscle power - human & horse. He walked to a one room schoolhouse. Later, as a young lad, steam power came to the farm. Fall threshing was really a big deal. His job was go back & forth from the creek hauling water for the big steampowered threshing machine.

As a teenager, he and a couple brothers took a Model T Ford & drove out to California & back.

As a young farmer, he organized his neighbors and brought in electricity for the farms. He was on the South Central REA board of directors until he retired.

When traveling on the bus to the Satern 5 building at Kennedy Space Center they have a movie clip of Present Kennedy challenging us to go to the moon. Tears swell in my eyes seeing & listening to that knowing he never lived to see that challenge full filled.

I was at my aunt and uncle's beach house on Long Island. We watched in on a B&W TV in a small living room. You probably have more computing power that you can hold in your hand than they did on that flight.

In terms of speed and memory, yes. In terms of programming, no. It wasn't trivial. Here is an article I found.
