This was one of those "time to checkpoint" races that it is important to have a talented navigator so as to arrive at each checkpoint on the correct second. Some 150 or more antique cars gathered for the race. For two days they all went through a tech inspection and preparatory maintenance. Then they departed at one minute intervals to begin the race to Colorado Springs.
This post showcases the 1916 LaFrance chain drive car. I thought this was the most interesting car of them all. Hope you enjoy the photos. I never found a time when the cars were free of clutter from people or other cars. The photos are just what they are.

Very cool and nice presentation of an age long past.
Wonderful subject and images!!
Can't imagine driving that beast very far. No mufflers, chain drive (how many miles to the quart of oil to keep the chain lubed) and stuff strapped on all over. Great capture of an interesting entry.

Great shot really brings us back to another era. Love how everything is tack sharp with great colors and composition. Did not know LaFrance made cars only know there fire engines. Great job.

Very interesting vehicle indeed Hereford. Well photographed. Doesn't look like it was made for your driving pleasure!

Can you imagine how loud and noisy that car must be without tail pipes or mufflers and it being chain drive. The owner must have to use both ear plugs and ear muffles to block out the sound.
