Rain-X? Probably not recommended for lenses, though.

My wife knew someone you used hydroflouric acid to etch glass and lost the ends of his fingers

Yes, HF goes thru the skin tissue and attacks the bone... the result is very brittle bones.
"Although hydrofluoric acid is weak compared with most other mineral acids, it can produce serious health effects by any route of exposure. These effects are due to the fluoride ion's aggressive, destructive penetration of tissues."

Chlorine bleach and ammonia makes Chlorine Gas!. Don't do this unless you have a notion

Maybe hydrofluoric acid instead of nitric.

Be sure to use a hood.

Hydrofluoric acid could etch the glass.

Some of the suggested liquid mixtures are deadly. An unsuspecting, un-knowledgeable person would be at great risk. It is not "funny".

User ID ... IS...a moron.

He also doesn't care that he posted a mixture (as a solution to the OP)...that could kill the OP.

No...when called out...and rightfully so...he posts immature cartoons.

I'll continue to be rude when morons go over their usual line of stupidity...and cross over into dangerous idiocy.

Typical of a visitor from The Attic. What ever would we do without Canis Dirus ? He is one of our greatest entertainers ! He plays a despicable role with aplomb.

Totally agree; what passes for "humor" nowadays can be harmful!
My wife uses a non- ammonia aerosol glass cleaner, which will solve one problem, and a quick wipe with a dry anti-static cloth should mitigate the other, with no lingering harm. But, what do I know?

You can’t be serious. No humor there. People follow bad advice from the internet all the time. This whole string should be taken down!

I did not say I thought it was funny. I thought that was what HE trying to do. I am serious, and you should have realized that was what I meant. I saw no humor there either.

Well there you go. Clearly I did not know what you “meant”. Just read your words. That’s the danger here. The written word may not convey the nuance or tone where misplaced humor or sarcasm might be evident in f-f communication.

It should be noted that combining bleach and ammonia produces chlorine gas. Ask a WWI vet about its effects

It woud be irresponsible on the part of the admins if they/he or whoever does not scrub this entire thread. The OP never returned with an explanation of what he was doing, there was no concrete answer to his question and the thread contains dangerous concepts.

The enter conversation serves no purpose except it feeds and encourages the troll who must be very pleas with all the squabbling that resulted.
