What if the person evaluated everything and has narrowed it down to two?
Or is that not a possibility,
or the person suggesting "C" doesn't care for "A" or "B"...

Longshadow: the original poster had used iPhones in the past and from his original post, it seemed he did not currently have any phone, smart or otherwise. I should have addressed my comment directly to the original poster.

I do have a dumb phone but I found I miss the GPS feature of the smartphone.

Ok, as I suggested before, buy what makes you happy or at least the happiest.

Now you have piqued my curiosity. What is it about the GPS feature that you find attractive? At least with your "dumb" phone your movement in your daily life cannot be "easily" and "accurately" tracked. In this day and age where governments track or attempt to track our movement, I would think an American, like you, would want a degree of invisibility a "dumb" phone provides, No?

What does your family use? If they all use iPhones, you will be left out of their ability to share photos, facetime, etc. Frankly I preferred my Samsung but went back to Apple because I was missing out.

I do have to say my iPhone takes incredible videos and not bad stills if I don't need low light, high resolution or shallow depth of field which are are the same limitations all small sensor camera phones share.

I just use Messenger. works between platforms. Some family has Apple, some have Android.
Biggest difference I've seen is Apple users can LIKE an image in messenger, I can't. Like I need to do that?
Don't need explicit compatibility.

You can transfer files from computer to phone via e-mail.

I need Google Maps to find my ways in many situations. The phone is much better (in this respect I think both Iphone and Android are about equal) than my stand alone GPS. Now I have to use Google Maps on a computer, check the route and remember which exit to to take. I have to do that before getting in the car as I don't have internet in the car.

Why not add data to your phone plan?
In NZ I pay $19 a month for my phone ‘plan’. For that I get 300 minutes of calling, unlimited texts and 1GB of data. I never run out of data even tho I use it to send receive/send emails occasionally, use the GPS if I’m looking for an addresss away from my car etc.
If I run out of data (or mins) I can add extra before the plan renews, for a couple of dollars.
Surely in a country as large as the USA someone offers an affordable plan at least as cheap or affordable (its the cheapest available here that I can find). Having said that, main use for me is as a phone.

That's what your GPS needs to work. Data.
If you cant use your GPS on your mobile phone while away from home, its because you don't have access to data.
