Iphone 14 or Galaxy S23?

I guess I have to get a smart phone now. I think I miss the GPS feature the most. It works much better than the stand alone GPS.
The company that I worked for issued Iphone to me so I have been using Iphone 4, 5, 6, 7 , 11 and the latest was 12. Now that I retired I don't have the phone any more. If I get the Iphone 14 it would be familiar because I have used the Iphones in the past. However, as I have been using the Iphone I hate Apple policy of restricting files transfer between a computer and the phone via cable. They want everything going thru the cloud and I hate that. So I am thinking of getting the Galaxy S23 but I have used the Android phone very little. I had an old Android tablet years ago but I am not familiar with the Android OS.
What would you suggest? I think I am leaning toward the Samsung but I am afraid it would be difficult to use. Although I have used the Iphone for years I still think it's difficult to use so never had an Android phone it may be too difficult for me?

I love my Galaxy S-21.
Previous had a Galaxy S-III.
I'm Samsung all the way.

One daughter recently got an iPhone on a deal, she can't wait to go back to android.

Your choice.

I have used an iphone for many years, almost since they first arrived probably.
A couple of years ago when I was due for a new phone my well meaning daughter gave me a new Samsung.
Bigger than the iphone but she thought it might encourge me to use the camera as it was advertised or rated a better camera than Iphones had.
It didnt come with an instruction book so I slipped the sim card in and thought Id set it up as needed.
Not so, I needed instruction. So I downloaded a 'book'. I forget how many pages but it was a thick bundle of A4 pages.
I struggled from the word go. It wasn't until it rang with a phone call that I realised I didn't know how to answer it! (Turned out there were a number of options and it was set at default 'swipe'.)
Persevered for a few weeks but it was uncomfortably foreign after so long and it didnt really like my ipad either so bought another iphone.
If you also use an ipad and enjoy them 'talking' to each other (texts, calendar etc) you might have to think hard about changing before you spend your money.
By the way, I only use the iphone camera for identifying parts etc. If I need a replacement for something, I photo my existing one and then show the shop what it is exactly that I'm looking for.

For me, and my wife, who aren't particularly technology geeky, iphones are simple, reliable. We mainly just use them for texts and calls tho.
Cheers

My wife's not geeky (I am) and she has no problem with the Galaxy.

I even added Camera FV-5 to my Galaxy.

I have a Galaxy S20 FE. I have never taken a picture with it. It's a phone. (I do use it to fly my drone, though. It's the only way to do it.)

I read that the Samsung has slightly better camera but I don't care about camera perfomance. I do use it for documenting stuff like shooting the gas amount as the gas station so I can check against my credit card bill etc..

I get receipts too but too often now they let the paper empty and I hate to have to go into the store especially during the covid time then I had to wear a mask.

Where I live it's extremely rare that I don't get a receipt from a gas pump.
But yea, they run out or jam sometimes.

My wife and I both have iPhones currently but we have previously owned Android phones - Samsung and Google Pixel. Honestly, I am not sure there is that much difference. Android can seem much more complicated at times because it is an open system with everybody and their brother writing apps for them. Because of this, many of the apps written for the android system are trash. Because of the closed nature of Apple ios, this is not seen as much. There are still useless and buggy apps but not nearly as many.

As far as transferring files, I assume you mean images and photos. I do this almost daily from our iPhones. Just plug them in the usb port with the cable and it is like transferring them from a USB drive. All the photo image files appear on your computer and you can just drop or drag.

Document files, pdfs are a little different but just as easy. Open a file on your phone, select and open the desired file and transfer it to Dropbox. Since I have Dropbox on all my devices, it synchs to all my devices, computers, tablets etc. Go to my computer and drop and drag the file to wherever you want it. Dropbox is free (for 5 GB) and is great for transferring large files around different devices WITHOUT connecting any cables etc.

I do not use Apple Cloud, other than to back up my contacts and calendar automatically. These would be difficult to reconstruct if iPhone was lost or destroyed.

You can't transfer a file or photo from you computer to the Iphone. You can transfer out of the Iphone but not into the Iphone. I want to use a photo I took with my camera as the background for the Iphone and I have to send it thru the internet. I have a lot of documents in pdf I want to transfer to the Iphone to view but they all have to go thru the internet. I have some sound files I need to play on the Iphone (it's not music or something you want to listen) but still they have to go thru the internet. But since now it's not so easy to get the audio output out of the Iphone (same for the Android I think) I don't use it in that way any more.

Wow.
I plug my Droid into the computer and it looks like an external drive on the computer. I can move files easily between the two devices.
