A lot of people have commented on the quality of this article and I agree with that perception. The general operating theory on population of the Americas, North and South, posits that humans migrated across the Bering Strait somewhere around 13-14 thousand years ago and moved south arriving at various points in the USA and further south. The Clovis people were generally regarded via dating of their site as the first people to arrive. Further archeological work has uncovered sites that appear to be older and some sites further south (don't recall exactly where), have been suggested to be Polynesian in origin. And I'm sure that this whole area is going to get more complex and controversial as more studies are done. So what's going on now and this article reflects is the aphorism, "If the facts don't fit the theory, they must be discarded or change the facts or whateve". It's a lot of anus protectus or protecting your turf but it's also human nature and it happens everywhere, by all of us.

If you're interested in what the Americas were like before Columbus, read "1491", a book that explores what we are discovering lately, e.g, population might have been as high as 20 million; Tenochtitlan, on the site of current Mexico City was larger than Paris. and so on. Great read.

Not a very well written article. From the article, "Until recently, archaeologists believed that the Clovis people, who claimed to have arrived in North America some 13,000 years ago, were the first Americans."

Exactly when did the Clovis people make the claim that they were first?

The article also uses the phrase "Big Archeology" which makes it sound like some type of conspiracy.

It also talks about information from the "Joe Rogan Experience". Yep...that's where I go for all of my archeology news.
Not a very well written article. From the article,... (show quote)

40,000 year old Clovis remains were discovered in a cave a few years back.
