Henry probably did not approve the color scheme.

sure, it has a Chevy Small Block. CSB's are numerous and therefore cheap. All sorts of parts are available and relatively inexpensive too. Most hots rods like this one have CSBs. Or did have 20+ years ago.

Indeed a small block, but which? 265, 283, 302, 327, 350, 400? I think the 327 and 350 blocks were the most used although bolt on parts like intake manifolds, headers, and distributors were pretty much interchangeable. Most people don't agree with the 400 ci small block, but one of my neighbors back in the day had a 71 Caprice with a 400 ci, with a 4bbl carb. Can't remember if an AFB or Quadrajet. Just a big displacement engine for a heavy car. No performance potential in that one.

Great photos!

A question for all those who seem to think a small block Chevy in a Ford is some kind of sin - ever try to shoe-horn a Ford V8 into an early Ford. It can be done, but no easy fit. Overall, I really like the look of this Coupe with the two-tone paint job and the classy looking trunk out back. I have to agree with Chip 94, that throttle cable installation is rather unique and could have been handled better.

Here is a 34 Ford hot rod I built back in the 70's. Instead of the typical Chevy small block, I installed a 426 Hemi out of a 69 Plymouth Roadrunner. I think it was the last year of the solid lifter Hemi's. It had a 513 rear end. I was a pipe welder by trade, so I was able to build the headers and exhaust system myself. It was loud, fast and a lot of fun.
I wish I still had the motor today.

Bad to the bone! Building headers seems it would be a bitch. I don't recall ever seeing a Roadrunner with anything but the 383. My brother-in-law had an RT with a Hemi, but I don't know if it was OEM or done later. My across the street neighbor has a Ram PU with a Hemi. 426, I guess. I don't know if they are available anymore in another displacement.Sounds great. I miss the rumble of a good engine. All you hear these days is the whine of the rice burners and the putt-putt sort of sound that the Chevy PUs make when the youngsters get on 'em and think they'e hot.
