Why use a computer to store the settings, if the camera can save a reloadable file for later restoration to the camera?

I'd much rather just save a configuration file to an SDXC card and load it to another camera of the same model, or reload it to my camera after doing something different.

Get 2 small SD cards. Save settings to both & use the lock tab so they can't be deleted. Mark the cards. Keep 1 in the camera bag (in case Murphy shows up) & one in a safe place at home. Pretty sure even if you write all the settings down, it wouldn't take nearly as long as 2 days as with a new camera & probably a pdf owner/user manual.

Modern cameras are getting more and more complicated, and manufacturers are getting smarter about letting us customize and save their settings. We're seeing more "my menu" setups that let you choose the most frequently used settings in a sort of submenu. We're seeing customizable buttons, and C1, C2, C3... custom mode dial settings. I'm pretty sure my next camera will be much easier to use — AND far more capable — than my last.

Reikan FoCal is a program for auto tuning your lens focusing system. It has a feature they call Snapshot that does what you are looking for. A Snapshot is a copy of all the available camera settings representing the current state of your camera, which you can then apply it to your camera if you lose any setting or you can export it to a file for printing.

Thanks for the tip. I checked on my copy of FoCal and find that the Snapshots function is not available for Canon cameras. Yes, Nikon has it but not Canon. BUMMER!

In the meantime, I spent most of yesterday afternoon creating an Exell file for my Canon R8. I will send some time today varifing that it correct. After that I will be willing to share it with anyone who wants it. They can change it any way they need to refect there settings. NO CHARGE!

Nit picking! Well Microsoft chose to name their spreadsheet program Excel and not Exell.

I have the Canon R5 and one can save their settings to a camera card. Using C1-C3 is fine as long as in your Menu-settings there is one that settings you would not want set - which is, if you make any changes then it will record the new changes To C-1-C3(actually the one you are using). Now you have a different set of settings. It gets tricky- BTW I did not see you mention what camera you have, which makes hard to give advice.

The camera is a Canon R8. The feature that you have in the R5 to save the settings to a camra card is exactly what I am looking for. Hopefully Canon will add this to future updates to R series cameras.

By the way, the Excel file I posted has been updated to correct some thing. I don't know how to delete the current file and add the corrected one. If anyone knows, please let me know.
