The Leica Q2, or better yet, the new Q3. Both use electronic zoom. The 45mp Q2 goes from 28mm to 75mm. The 60mp Q3 goes from 28 to 90mm. Close to perfect as a travel camera . . .

Rather small cameras and lenses. Why cant you take it all ?

If I hadda decide for myself, and I have verrrry similar Lumix gear, I would skip the FZ300.

On my only cruise I had a Lumix pocketable (the ZS100) for land excursions. Except for the zoom limit, it did a fine job.

I have this camera, excellent choice for a basis cruise. I don’t believe it was mentioned if this was an Alaska cruise or something with lots of wildlife otherwise a camera like this is sufficient.

After reviewing my Alaska pictures, I suggest you take some test shots with your 300 and than blow them up to 100% on your monitor and see how you like them. Take varying focal lengths up to your max (600mm). Try a grey day. If your happy taking that should fill all of your needs.

I say this because I had a FZ-280 that I bought just for this cruise. My results varied. I also had an Olympus TG-1 which I took whale watching. Compact and waterproof. I found the reach too short but the color great. I also had a Sony NEX-6 with a 18-55 and a 70-210 with me. I wasn't taking any chances.

Bottom line. The Sony with it's APS-C sensor was the best quality but the extra reach of the Lumix was very handy.

Conclusion: Think through your trip and decide what you think is most important to capture with good quality.
If I were to go again, I would go go for the best quality because if the reach is a little short I could always crop.

Have a great trip, Alaska is fantastic. Remember the very best camera is the combination of your eyes and your brain.

FZ300 as primary .....but there is some logic to also having a back-up.

You will need both wide angle, AND all the zoom you can bring!

Yes. You'll see wildlife from a distance and sweeping landscapes. Your Lumix with the zoom lens will probably serve you best.

I do a lot of cruising, including four AK cruises and four other AK trips. In AK you never know what photo opportunities will pop-up. I suggest, as several others have--Take all the zoom you can get. If you take shore excursions, try to factor in what will be best for those ventures, but again in AK you do not know what will happen upon you. It is quite different than say cruising all the history sights in Europe!

Cabin safes are a joke...never take what you cannot afford to replace.

I have a Canon R6 but on trips like this I take my new Sony DSC-RX100M7. It's compact takes great pics and 4K video.

There must be a reason that you have two cameras, that each one does something specific that you need to do. Use that as your criteria.

It may depend on the size of the boat and its itinerary. Small boats that hold about 60-90 people can get closer. Large cruise ships rarely get close to anything.

That being said when I did a small boat cruise in Alaska I used a 70-200mm lens a lot and a 300mm lens with a 1.4x tc on Nikon DSLRs. And a 24-85mm.

Have fun and be prepared for changing weather.

Since you’re on a cruise and you don’t have to carry everything bring both. I took an Alaska cruise. You need a long lenses also get an inexpensive mono pod to take pictures from the boat. B+H salesman I’m friendly with recommended I buy one. Very happy I did.
