all of a sudden Lightroom will not import photos from my Mac desktop or attached thumb drives. I've contacted Adobe twice to fix the problem and they have accessed my Mac without any solution. Last week all worked fine, then all of a sudden this week, LR will not import, but just sits there saying it is importing, but nothing happens.

The first call with Adobe lasted several hours and they thought they fixed the problem by changing a bunch of parameters on my Mac. Believing that the problem was corrected, we ended the call. After rebooting the system, the problem still remains.

The second call with Adobe also lasted several hours with their final solution of going back to an older version of LR. Again, believing that the problem was corrected, we ended the call. Again, after rebooting the system, the problem still remains. I am going to contact Adobe support again today and ask for someone who knows what they are doing instead of the guessing of prior agents.

I am completely frustrated at this point, and am now asking for help from UHH. Has anyone had this situation with LR, and, if so, what was the solution?

What MacOS?
Lightroom or Lightroom Classic?
Can you copy the images to a temporary folder on your desktop from the SD card/CF express care or whatever media you use?
Have you selected a destination?
Are you copying, moving, or adding the images?

So much information is not given.

1. The folder contains some RAW, some JPG, some HIEF, a couple of PNG, and some MP4 files.
2. I believe that they all have the same security attributes as I have not changed any after importing to the Mac.
3. Don't know what you mean by this.
4. This has been tried several times with the Adobe Agent and worked until I reboot, then not working.
5. Also tried with Adobe Agent, even placed temporary CAT on the desktop.

Item 3 was to confirm the problems occur for all file types and all source cameras, no isolation for file types nor camera source.

For 4, I thought one update was they (Adobe) hung-up before the reboot failed to 'keep'. So, that would be a process correction the next time you have them on the phone.

I admit to grasping here, but I had a similar problem recently when I tried to import files from an external SSD to Lightroom Classic on my M1 MacBook . The solution was in the Privacy settings on the Mac:

System Settings
Privacy and Security
Files and Folders
Allow the application to access files and folders
Adobe Lightroom Classic

In my case, the external drive option was not checked.
Perhaps something got changed in all the fiddling with Adobe?

Just a thought.

Good luck. Please tell us how you ultimately solve this.

Agree this info may help people help you better. Also:
Have you recently updated your Mac OS?
Did you install anything new or modify anything between the time it last worked and the time it quit working?
Have you tried having Lightroom import directly from the card? Did that work?

Some other ideas:
Put a new card in the camera and take a new sequence of photos, and try to import them. Any difference?
Watch the attempted import on the console. Any clues?
While you're in the console look through the various reports. Any clues?
Have you run system diagnostics? On both your hard drive and any externals? Any clues?

Some suggestions:
Post your problem on the Lightroom Queen site and the Apple support site.

I have used Lightroom and PS for 15 years and only once have I had a totally confounding problem that Adobe tech could not solve. The good folks on LQ and Apple forums helped me find/resolve the problem.

Are you using Ventura? I believe there is a problem with it and Adobe. I have not upgraded mine to Ventura yet on my M1 mac.

All the system settings for Adobe software were set, or changed, by the Adobe agents. All access was allowed.

The import function to LR worked fine last week, and no updates to the Mac or any software was performed between that time and when the problems occurred.

Ventura 13.4 has absolutely no problems with LrC.

Step 1.

Copy all images to a desktop folder.
Try and open them in Preview.
if they all open then the problem is not a corrupted file.

Will look for a result.

Exactly correct! I have the photos in a desktop folder and can view them with Preview, Photos and Quick View on my Mac.

Some people have had issues with flickering and also with printing. At least that’s what I have read and many have said to wait until Adobe resolves these issues.

Open LR and try importing directly from card into LR. I do all my imports this way. Shot in the dark but might work for you.

I never had an issue importing from an SD card, and still don't. The problem is importing from a folder on the desktop that includes photos from a camera (RAW), photos and videos from iPhones( HEIC and JPG).

So, if this remains true, then you have a way out of this problem. Rather than the 'add' option of Import from a folder on the computer, you can use the 'copy' option from the camera-card where the images are added to the LRCAT at the same time they're copied onto some location on your harddrive. You get to decide which is more important, arguing with Adobe or working productively.
