all of a sudden Lightroom will not import photos from my Mac desktop or attached thumb drives. I've contacted Adobe twice to fix the problem and they have accessed my Mac without any solution. Last week all worked fine, then all of a sudden this week, LR will not import, but just sits there saying it is importing, but nothing happens.

The first call with Adobe lasted several hours and they thought they fixed the problem by changing a bunch of parameters on my Mac. Believing that the problem was corrected, we ended the call. After rebooting the system, the problem still remains.

The second call with Adobe also lasted several hours with their final solution of going back to an older version of LR. Again, believing that the problem was corrected, we ended the call. Again, after rebooting the system, the problem still remains. I am going to contact Adobe support again today and ask for someone who knows what they are doing instead of the guessing of prior agents.

I am completely frustrated at this point, and am now asking for help from UHH. Has anyone had this situation with LR, and, if so, what was the solution?

Not a Lightroom user, but can you import your photo off a card via your Mac operating system, or via Bridge. It may be an issue with the Mac and not Lightroom. No expert here but just a thought.

I can import from SD card to my Mac desktop, then the problem occurs when trying to go from the desktop to LR, will not import into LR.

The last Adobe agent thought that My issue was caused by iCloud, because LR cannot import from a cloud, but it will not import from a thumb drive either. I will contact them again today and, hopefully, get a solution.

Someone here once told me that I was missing much the the joy of photo editing by not using this state-of-the-art technology, because I use Bridge instead of periodically going through this kind of stuff.

I wish you the best of luck.

Here is a followup: Contacted an Adobe support agent again (3rd time in three days) yesterday and, again, on the phone for more than 2 hours. This agent believes that the reason why the photos cannot be imported into LR is because some of the photos are corrupt. So, moved the photos onto an external drive and tried to import one at a time. While he was on the line, some did import and others could not, so we assumed that the problem was with corrupted photos. The case was closed and the call was ended. I rebooted the system and tried to import only those photos that he was able to import, and now again nothing would import. I am now totally frustrated because I still cannot import photos into LR. I don't know what to do, call Adobe again today (4th time) to get yet another solution, or throw LR in the garbage and seek another editing software?

I told the agent that the problem is that I rely on LR, not only for editing, but for catalogging and Key Wording. So going to another editing package will be difficult unless my keywords can follow the edited photos. The agent suggested that I start using Bridge for catalloging and key wording. So, I will check out some Youtube tutorials on Bridge today to see if it can be a work around for the photos that will not import into LR.

If it works on another computer...it isn't Adobe.

I have always used Bridge for "cataloging and keywording." You can make Favorites folders, Collections, Smart Collections, filter by many different criteria like file type, date created, date modified, etc. etc. There is no editing in Bridge of course, so you open your files in Adobe Camera Raw (which is the editing engine for Lightroom, so the controls are the same with a different interface) and then Photoshop. No importing into Bridge, because it is a browser, and can search your drives for images, and open them directly. Your files are always on the disk anyway, no matter whether you access them directly or through a temperamental database, so I find Bridge perfectly adequate. Just remember that deleting or moving a file via Bridge moves or deletes the actual file on disk.

I use Lightroom for one function only, and that is to tether my camera to a laptop for tabletop shots. I didn't want to buy another program just for that when I already had Lightroom, but I just shoot onto a USB thumb drive and take it to my desktop for editing.

So, you can't import the same image from the same folder, if you're not allowing duplicates. That may / may not apply to your testing described above.

If you can 'view' (display) the images with any of your photo viewers outside LR, the image files are likely not corrupt.

Do you have other cameras to test whether the issue is specific to the files from a specific camera? In that other camera, use another card, if the card is causing problems with the files.

In a subsequent reply, there's a comment about another computer. If possible, does the 'same' software in another computer cause different behavior?

Just curious - why do you import from the SD card to your desktop and then from your desktop to LR? Why not import from the SD card directly into LR? I'm thinking LR sees the import from the desktop to LR as duplicates, but that's only a w.a.g.!

The folder on the desktop has 206 photos and videos taken in the month of May from several iPhones, my R6, and my R10. All the photos in the desktop folder are viewable from Photos, Preview and Quick Look on my Mac.

You need to be working with Adobe. But, given the time invested, the following issues should have been reviewed and crossed-off, where possible:

1, Does the image format impact the problem? (RAW vs JPEG vs HIEF vs video, etc)
2, Do all the images have the same security attributes?
3, Does the source camera have an impact?
4, LR just keeps a 'pointer' to the image. If you remove the images from the LRCAT (remove, not delete), can you reimport?
5, If you create a new temp LRCAT, can you import into the LRCAT instead?

1. The folder contains some RAW, some JPG, some HIEF, a couple of PNG, and some MP4 files.
2. I believe that they all have the same security attributes as I have not changed any after importing to the Mac.
3. Don't know what you mean by this.
4. This has been tried several times with the Adobe Agent and worked until I reboot, then not working.
5. Also tried with Adobe Agent, even placed temporary CAT on the desktop.
