I ‘m not complaining about Nikon. I use Pentax, sometimes with fifty-year-old lenses, which still work just fine.

I just said that the people who say that Nikon missed the boat because they didn't make their Z focus their screw mount F lenses are those that don't by Nikon anyway. So it's not worth the effort and raise the price of the FTZ.

and they may even sell more lenses - they need the money.

So Nikon missed the boat since the 80's not now. Putting an AF motor in the adapter isn't practical and no company is doing it. (some third party actually does it though).

Sony's A-mount to E-mount lens adapter DOES have a focus drive motor inside the lens adapter.

Go to 1:11 in this video to see the focus drive motor inside the lens adapter

I will share this in each of the current Z8 threads here in UHH.

My longtime friend and fellow top pro Cliff Mautner, a Nikon Ambassador and Nikon youtube content creator, had this to say about the Z8:

" Photographer friends- I truly didn’t think anything could surpass the Z 9. It’s been my workhorse since the day I received one. I’ll spare you the “specs” report, but I’d always wished the Z 9 could be more compact. After 40 years of gear on my shoulders, carrying full sized flagship cameras have taken their toll. After my first 12 hour gig with the Z 9, I’d wished it was just…. Smaller. Enter the Nikon Z 8! I’m truly stoked to have all of the Z 9’s features, plus a few others, in a smaller form factor. THIS is everything I’ve needed in a camera body. You can learn more about the camera with the link in this post. A few of my fellow Nikon ambassadors did a phenomenal job with producing assets for this campaign."

Cheers and best to you all.

This picture, if anywhere close to reality, contains some clues that the camera may be very close to what I have been waiting for. But if the price is anywhere close to $5000, it is a complete miss for me and will remain on the shelf at the camera store.

I agree with you on 5k. However, good news, it was announced at $3995.00 body only.

It's not just a matter of power. It would need a built-in autofocus motor to turn the focus screw in the AF-D lenses.

My opinion Nikon will not add the screws for the AF-D. I only have one AF-D lens, but have several non-AD Nikkor lenses, both prime and and zoom. I usually use my Nikkor 17-35 AF-D in manual mode with one of my Nikon F2's.

You better take a look at Nikon's current earnings reports on Dunn and Bradstreet. They are doing well.

A report at NikonRumors says their revenue was up 28% and their operating profit up 122%.

I don't think they will either. If they intended to do that it probably would have been in the first FTZ adapter.

I still had 3, but included my 28-70 AF-D zoom when I sold my Nikon F100 film camera to another hogger several months ago after buying a D610. Since that camera has a built-in AF motor I can use my 50mm f/1.4D lens and 70-210 f/4-5.6D lens with full autofocus.

I replaced the 28-70 AF-D with the AF-S 24-85 zoom on the D610. Of course, that lens has its own motor.

Among the top sixteen biggest Imaging Companies, revenues for 2021:

1) Sony Imaging Divisions: 8.44 Billion USD, (Sony Corporation 85 Billion USD)
2) Canon Corp.: 5.11 Billion USD
3) FujiFilm Holdings Corp: 1.7 Billion USD
4) LifeTouch (School and Family photography): 1.5 Billion USD
5) Nikon: 1.16 Billion USD
6) Eastman Kodak: 1.15 Billion USD
7) Panasonic Holdings Corp.: 1 Billion USD
10) B&H Photo : 460 Million USD
11) Leica: 432 Million USD
12) Polaroid: 300 Million USD
13) Ricoh/Pentax Co. Ltd. : 116.9 Million USD
14) Adorama Camera: 100 Million USD
15) OM Digital Systems: 43.7 Million USD
16) Hasselblad: 38.6 Million USD

I would imagine Nikon's revenues for 2022 were even better after the release of the Z9 and many new Z lenses. I know Sony Imaging sales were reported by Bloomberg to be up an impressive 30% in 2022-2023.

The bottom line is Nikon is still behind in Imaging revenue behind Sony, Canon, Fuji, but Nikon is healthy now and in no real financial danger anymore ,after its cost-cutting moves and its introduction of excellent new products that are selling well.

USA orders for the Z8 are already going well according to reports from merchants. USA shipping out of Z8 orders are scheduled to begin May 24th. It is already available in many foreign markets, which normally get new Japanese camera releases before North America.

Cheers and best to you.

Nikon Imaging Products Business

The Group sought to expand sales of mid- to high-end products to professionals and hobbyists by enhancing the lineup of interchangeable lenses for mirrorless cameras, alongside strong sales of the Z 9 full-frame mirrorless camera, a flagship model released in December 2021.
As a result, in the Imaging Products Business segment, the Group recorded revenue of 178,234 million yen (up 18.7% year on year), and operating profit of 19,069 million yen (compared to operating loss of 36,391 million yen for the previous fiscal year), due to higher average unit selling prices from an improved product mix as well as favorable foreign exchange rates.

Yes thanks Bill, that shows Nikon Imaging revenue increased from $1.16 Billion USD in 2021, to $ 1.31 Billion USD in 2022. An excellent increase of over $150 Million USD. They are on the right path financially for sure. Way to go Nikon!!.

Cheers and best to you.
