The $9.99 plan entitles you to LRC, LR Cloud, PS, Bridge, Adobe Portfolio, LR and PS on IPad. In my opinion, LRC is the recommended LR flavor.

Just looking at plans available on my Adobe account and it appears that on the plan you listed for $9.99, the plan includes LR, but not LRC. I have used both and found the LR software leaves a bit to be desired from an editing perspective vs the LRC program, but that could just be my lack of technical know how. If the program you are talking about contained LRC I’d jump to it, because like many I find I seldom need the techniques available in PS.

That's incorrect. The Photographer's Package does include both the web-based Lightroom and the desktop Lightroom Classic. This is a list of the available apps that I have chosen not to install.

I agree with Dan. The $9.99 per month for Lightroom Classic would probably be perfect for you. I fought going to a subscription model for software for years and now I have subscriptions for the major ones - LRC, On1 and Luminar. Very happy with that decision and all of my software has the latest features.

Yes, LR is the ego-trip Adobe gotta have... and is considered to be the gold standard, but there are others such as DarkTable [free], and Aftershot Pro 3 [low-cost download from eBay at Foreign Country price no subscription $12 ... yes legal]. Improvements are "patches" or addon modifications. These free open-source or low-cost programs do the job for most users and a monthly randsome is not extorted.

A comparison: "There are functional differences where Corel wins over Adobe, but also vice versa. "

A comparison: "In fact, Darktable may be better than Lightroom. It has more tools and offers more precise adjustments from these tools."

Remember that Kleenex is any tissue... and if a photo is modified it has been photoshopped... Photoshop has become a generic term. While PS has many tools, a Program such as Paintshop Pro Ultimate with a plugin from Topaz makes life easier with excellent results and of course, much lower cost especially if one considers several years. How much better is better?

There are many small low-cost or open-source programs that do specialty tricks that yes can be done in PS, but with great complication in processing.

Keep an open mind and shop and evaluate.

So it's clear you're not an Adobe guy. News flash: Nobody really cares. Go wet your pants elsewhere and leave everyone else to their preferred choices. (Some people just can't keep their biases to themselves.)

While I'm an Adobe guy, I recognize the right of others to be different.

Mr. Pullum is not an Adobe guy and he has the right to do what he wants.

In support of his post, I would point out that many Adobe guys recommend LR/PS when someone asks about a postprocessing app, even when they specifically state they are not interested in either (1) Adobe or (2) subscription. Mr. Pullum is just putting the shoe on the other foot.

In my opinion, more information is always better. Even if the suggestion is not followed.

How do you know which is more popular by subscriptions? You get both. And it’s not really any easier. The reason most of the help issues are with Classic is because most people use Classic.
Right that makes sense. I should have added "and different purposes."

I doin't know the exact numbers. However functionality, and articles I have read, tend to indicate the bigger user base is for the cloudy version. It competes with the likes of Apple Photos, and U-soft's version. That is a very large user base, much larger than pros and dedicated hobbyists. I have observed, Adobe continues to spend money on LR Cloud, and promote it, and not so much with Classic. Note in the Adobe Subscription marketing pics like the one posted above, LR is above Classic in the list and in one version of subscription it does not even appear.

I'm curious! What were the issues?

1. I misunderstood what I read here and downloaded Lr CC instead of classic.

2. Was having trouble connecting to my catalog. I called adobe support and he connected remotely andd was able t correct the situation.

3. I downloaded Ps then Ps beta. Some features of the beta version worked until I tried to move a toolbar from the middle of an image I was working on, at which time a whole lot of functions became unavailable. I plan to delete the app, then re-download.

So what if he's not an Adobe guy? What happened here? What triggered such a strong emotional response? Isn't this a public forum where people express varied opinions?

...you obviously haven't USED the software, why denigrate those who do? I've been LR since the very beginning...just in the last year or so it's improved a light year, maybe more depending on your POV. *I* don't salute the "Adobe Flag" but you better believe I USE the program(s) with gusto...it's a badass tool and I for one appreciate every update. It's not an "ego-trip Adobe gotta have" as you classify it, and thankyewverymuch for the mass put-down.<big time shrug>

...you are going to have a freakin' blast; shoot, just switching between LR and PS effortlessly. When something goes awry (and it happens) You Tube is your friend.

I use PS a lot. Downloaded Beta just to check it out. Sometimes it does wonderful things. Sometimes it ties me in knots. But that's why it's Beta.
