The Moses Cone Memorial Park is an approximately 3500 acre homesite developed by Moses Cone for he and his family. Cone made a fortune in the textile industry and came to be known as the " Denim King ". Around 1903, he built a 13,000 square foot home on the estate. Cone had a unique hobby. He loved to build roads and trails.
The estate has about 25 miles of carriage roads and hiking trails are all over the place. Among other features, he created two large lakes.
One of the lakes is named Bass Lake. The walk around the perimeter of the lake is approximately one mile in length. Over the years, I've made this walk many, many times. This past Fall, the leaf colors in the area were extraordinarily beautiful. This picture shows one small section of the walk.
