Whatever the rules, customs, and traditions are as far as photographing the Amish, it does appear that this gentleman is indicating that he does not want his picture taken and his wishes should be respected, as should those of any other individual we photograph.

How do you know that he was putting up his hand to block the view of his face? I know that the Amish generally do not prefer to having themselves photographed, but that said, we do know exactly what was transpiring in this case.

Just giving you my opinion of what I see. I mean his face is in the shade so he isn't blocking the sun.

By chance I could be from any number of professions, but one does not have to be a lawyer to make an argument as you, yourself, have demonstrated on a number of occasions. I do think this image has received responses based on what people perceive the facts to be. I don't know the facts and neither do you nor the rest of the responders. Halkeye and the Amish teamster were the ones there. We probably won't be hearing from the Amish fellow and unless Halkeye chooses to tell us what transpired, we will never know. We do know that we should generally be considerate of the wishes and feelings of those whom we are photographing.

I talked to a farmer at A fruit stand and asked if there was a problem of me taking photos of there work. He said it was ok. He even showed me around. It was A drive by shot.
