FWIW, calling out the perhaps not so obvious . . . I bought my Dx1 in 2001 for $5K USD.
So, $4K today isn't quite so painful realizing that the $5K in 2001 now has buying power of $8,564.74!
I've already upgraded most of my older lens collection to Z lenses for my Z6 and had been saving for a Z7ii.
I'll be ordering my Z8 as soon as the funds are available.

When I win the lottery and have an abundance of money, I will buy ALL the the most expensive gear of the day and then I will become the most famous, richest, respected, honored, and promoted guy, Oh yea I will then be known as a 'Photographer' and many will kneel down before me.
My place in life at this time is that, If I cannot learn how to use what I currently have to capture the images I wish to save then why buy the 'best' and what is the 'best' ?
I certainly know the new expensive stuff gives all these great features but again, what did we have before all this expensive stuff ?
Until I hit the big payoff on the lotto, I will stick with my Nikon D300s and the Lumix FZ300.
Oh, I guess I need to buy the damn tickets, that is why I have not won yet.
Oh well, you guys enjoy your new expensive gear.

I think if I had a local dealer that took trade ins I would consider switching to "Z". But, I'm not sure, since I don't need to switch, if it would be worth the effort packing everything up and shipping.

I try to avoid gas attacks but when one hits I let it sit in the "cart" for a day or 2. When I wanted my Tamron 150-600 G2 I waited and then covid hit followed by my $1200 stimulus check and that covered the entire cost. If I bought it with my own funds I would have spent that check on something else. The next stimulus check $1800 went for a high end 102mm apo telescope. Free government money is easy to spend

I was tempted for one minute. I shot an event with my Z6 a few weeks ago and couldn’t figure out why I could not “chimp” to see my images. I figured out why a week later. I have not learned all there is to know about my Z6. It is also an awesome video camera. I will pass on the Z8.
