Yeah I could not help it....

So who is jumping on the Z8? Pure GAS or real needs?

For me - for $4k USD very tempting, but I also think of the nice lenses I could add to my collection too. It's a baby Z9. I just wonder if Nikon will keep up with the demand, ala Z9 shipping delays when introduced. Listened to a few vlogger channels (Steve Perry, Chris what's his name, and a couple others) - mostly good things to say. I like they left off the integrated grip, but wish they kept 2 CFexpress slots instead of CF/SD.

Preordered mine. I gave a few great pieces of glass but I am looking forward to building my Z line.

Only $4000. Wow, I’ll order two.
Oh boy I just let out a real long fart so I’m over it now. I guess I’ll just keep the camera I’ve got.
Bruce.

Not for me. I haven't even used my Z6 to the fullest.
Much less the refurbished D850 I recently bought.

Nobody will deny that these new cameras are loaded with new technologies and in the case of Nikon they have fine optics for such cameras and keep on developing new lenses. The end of producing dSLR cameras is near.

$4000 is a lot of money. I shoot Olympus cameras and I am very satisfied with them considering they are not new bodies. My Olympus EM-10 Mk II has been my workhorse and has given me fine photographs and beautiful enlargements. It has all the features I actually need. It is not a great camera for wildlife or fast action, its AF is only contrast detection. I am not a prolific wildlife or action photographer, I am more into landscapes. I have been as of lately using the electronic shutter and I am very pleased with it.

A new camera will be convenient but will not make me better. Even buying optics to me is not practical, I can rent the lens I need at a reasonable cost. Neither the Z9 nor the new Z8 are for me and their price is out of my budget. If I did not have the Olympus system I would most probably buy the Z5. I am sure it would be all the camera I will ever need. My second choice would be the Z50 and I have nothing against using an APS-C type of camera.

I will keep shooting with what I have. No need for a new camera.

I’ll have to wait and touch it in person but it looks like it addresses the autofocus limitations of my Z7ii. I’m not keen on the larger size and 50% weight increases. But we’ll see. Then there is the saving plan……

The amazing thing about photography is that average, random, unremarkable people can own the best equipment.

And the reverse is true. Highly remarkable people can do amazing things with average random equipment.

Imagine your photography if you only had the best equipment.
