Whenever buy I auto parts I tell the guy behind the counter I'm from "P & D Auto Repair" (P & D being my and my wife's names' first letter) and they usually knock 10% off for "professional customers." They never ask for any proof I'm from a legitimate business and I don't offer any more information. I wonder if that would work at Lowes or Home Depot?

What I see too often on the road is a car varying the speed and drifting back and forth over both lines. That's a sure sign of a guy using a cell phone.

Based on my last 100 trips through the checkout there was a preponderance of old people. Old is 65 up. In case you think I might have a thing against old people (which I have by the way because they are slower than they need to be) note that I am 75 this year.

You keep notes and records on your trips to the markets and stores? I'm 86 and will race you anytime and anywhere. At 75, you think 65 and older is "older"?

The worst are the old people. They put everything through the scanner and then decide that they need to pay for it somehow and spend the next 10 minutes finding their wallet, getting it out and then looking for their credit/debit cards Women aren't the best either. I go through having already got my cards out before I have even unloaded the trolley. And the worst thing is they drive the same way.

There are a lot of those “old people” on this site. You might want to be careful out there😂

Jerry, and there in lay the problem. When workers are paid by the hour, time is all they have to sell to their employer and their speed equates to less income. I prefer to pay by the "job". When "this is the price I am paying" work tends to get done faster. Add to that, holding payment until the job is finished helps assure that it is complete and meets expectations.

And let's not forget those who pay in cash, slowly fishing around in their handbags or pockets to provide the EXACT payment down to the last penny. Or, even better, slowly and methodically writing a check. Almost without exception, I end up in one of these lines!

While on the subject of Lowes, if you are a vet, Lowes gives a straight across 10% discount to veterans. They send you a form with a bar code which automatically activates the discount when you check out. I took a close up photo of the bar code with my phone, and when I check out, I just hold my phone up, the cashier scans the code, and -- whammy! -- 10% deducted from the sale and shown on the receipt. We have saved quite a bit over the years, especially when we remodeled, and there have been no exeptions to the discount.

I love the ones in the grocery stores that put all their groceries on the conveyer and then wait until the cashier has scanned everything before digging around in their purse or wallet to dig out a credit card, cash, or write a check to pay.

Kinda like the people that wait 10 minutes to get to the front of the line and then try and decide what they want to order.

I went to Lowe's this morning for plywood, insulation, and a few other things.

Never get behind me at a checkout. I'm very fast, but the people in front of me are always very slow.

I had to use the Lowe's register in lumber. There were two construction guys ahead of me. Their order was checked out, but the guy left his wallet in the truck. It must have been parked several miles away because it took quite a while for him to return. Then he had to decide on how to pay, cash or CC. When that was done, he had to access his phone to get something to show the cashier - pro discount, I think. Eventually (six minutes later) they left.

My eight items were checked out in under thirty seconds. My car was started just as they were starting to put their stuff into the truck. I'd hate to have these slow-motion guys doing a job for me. This seems to be standard operating procedure for me. If I'm in a smaller store, like Stewart's, the guy in front of me will have to pick out an assortment of lottery tickets. Then he'll have to get cigarettes. Then there will be a problem with his credit card.
I went to Lowe's this morning for plywood, insulat... (show quote)

There used to be a store in my town that printed custom t-shirts.

I was tempted to go there and get a t-shirt with "don't get behind me, I always get in the slow line" printed on the back...just to wear when I went grocery shopping.

My biggest complaint was women who would get in the 12 items or less line with a full shopping cart and all of her kids. They would count out 12 items and pay for that saying it was kid no.1s items and proceed with separate orders for each kid until the shopping cart was empty.

I had smoke coming out of my head when that happened...more than once.

I got my shirt from Customink.com. It was my grocery shopping shirt before I switched to curbside pickup.

I made the mistake ONCE of wearing it in the TSA line at Logan Airport.

No I don't keep notes. This is from general observation. You would be hard pushed to out pace me. A lot of people become old the day they retire. Me ? I have too many things still to do before I can afford the luxury of becoming 'old'.

The fact that they are on this site would tend to indicate that, at least mentally, they aren't 'old' yet. But you are right. I'll have to keep an eye out for older people wondering around the supermarket with a camera around their neck.
