Watlington Hill view with Red Kite.
The view from the hill is one I see frequently as I often take a walk around there. I took many shots of the numerous Red Kites around the same time. Fortunately, I got one reasonably close and sharp. It's my best yet at cutting and pasting a selection and I'm quite pleased. I see it as a complete image, but some in the family see it as 'photoshopped'.

Beautiful shot john, both of the bird and the countryside...I like it. You should put that photo on the Watlington Hill Trust page. Beautiful area.

The great thing about this image is it doesn’t look Photoshopped at all. Beautiful scene, beautiful bird, skillfully blended. Well done!

The Kite is sharper than the ground directly below it which could be why some say it looks cooked. It is very good.

I went through the standard procedure for both the landscape and the kite using the right hand menu for basic raw adjustments before developing then fine tuning it with the drop down menu's.
To select the kite I used the freehand selection tool with the 'magnet' on then used the 'refine' option with foreground and background options and the brush set at around 20px. It took several goes and I had a bit of bother selecting the fine backlit detail of the feather ends. It is best if you do this at 100% and maybe more if edges are clearly defined.
Keeping both images available I cut and pasted from one to the other using options under the edit tab.
If you download the image and use the + option you can see some purple fringing. I need to better understand some of the options in the refine box. I'm using Robin Whalleys' Essential AFFINITY photo 2 guidebook (sometimes).

After you have a good selection try using Command B (Ctrl B on a PC) which brings up the expand/shrink selection option. Then shrink the selection by 2 or 3 pixels to eliminate any highlights or fringing around the edges. This technique helps in general masking situations as well as for cutouts.
