Out running around yesterday, taking advantage of a break in the weather. Headed up to Penn State's Shaver's Fork Environmental Center south of State College, knowing that the redbuds and dogwoods should be in full bloom traveling in that direction from home.
A few years back (2011) I had visited the same location (Shaver's Fork) and on that trip had come across this same display in the Petersburg, PA, area on route 305. At that time I had taken a 6-Mp photo with my point and shoot, but told myself multiple times I needed to come back and have a re-do.
Well, yesterday was the "re-do" and here is the result! FYI: Redbud (purple) and dogwood (white) trees, mixed in with fresh spring green trees and an occasional dark green conifer. (Best viewed as a download, but even then not as good as the non-compressed version.)
Wow, pretty country nicely captured

Spring is my favorite time; all the fresh green colors that are not seen later in the year are shown in this picture.

Very nice!! Glad you made the re-do happen and shared it!

Very Nice!
I typically don't see Red Buds growing in the wild like this. Is this a cultivated area?
Thanks for sharing.

No, just a hillside on the way to the environmental center. The redbuds were past prime in our area, but as I headed north the evidence of spring (how far along the trees were in leaf) regressed. Many other areas of redbud too, but none as photogenic, or as accessible, as this one. Many areas of Central PA host great redbud displays this time of year.

Thanks for the info, interesting. Most of the time I see redbuds used as ornamental trees planted around homes, hardly ever in the woods here in CT.
Beautiful Spring colors.

Your comment made me look up the range of the Eastern Redbud, Cercis canadensis. It only reaches into some areas of the lower part of Pennsylvania, but nothing further north toward the New England area. Guess that's why no redbuds in the wild in CT!
I have one growing at my house, which, was transplanted, but it's not native to the area I live in either.

Terrific shot.
Thanks! Planned to take the shot in the a.m., but the light was coming from the wrong angle. Good thing I passed it again on my way home from the environmental center. Since I couldn't pinpoint or remember exactly where it was located on the route I was to travel, I couldn't use any of the shot planning software to give me the best time to be there.
