I've seen post similar to this one before and wonder if major retailers and manufacturers monitor this forum and similar ones. Wouldn't it be to their advantage to be able to respond to such accounts as this one either to give their side of things or to make things right if that is what needs to be done. As it is now there is an on-going discussion in at least one part of the photographic community about poor service received at MPB. I can't see how that can be good for business. I have seen responses from B&H.

B&H has been responding and helping out as long as I can remember. Primarily it is one person, Henry Posner.
Adorama had a woman naned Helen who was very helpful. I believe she left due to something she didn't like with customer service.

Those are the only two I can recall.

I had never heard of MPB until a few months ago. They had the lens I was looking for at a slightly lower price than its competitors and I decided to take a chance with them. I was satisfied with the service and the condition of the item. I would consider ordering from them again. I am hesitant to make a decision not to deal with a particular store or site based on one person's bad experience. It would appear that the OP's issue could be easily resolved with the appropriate documentation.

Whenever someone posts a story about a bad experience you can always be sure you’re only getting one side of the story. It’s just human nature.

They possibly assumed - perhaps not completely unreasonably - that you were going for a price at another shop, and they didn't want to play a negotiating game although this itself is of course a basic negotiating tactic.

Did you ask how long their offer was good for? They should have been very explicit.

It would be simply good business practice to state the validity of an offer, which might be anything along the lines of "my price is $X, right here, right now, valid only until we part company" or perhaps "my price is $X valid for 7 days (or whatever)".

When I've sold gear to them via mail order, it's always been an offer of $$ valid for so many days.

The better question is did he have the so called quote in writing or was it simple someone saying it. If it wasn't in writing, then you really don't have squat to say about it. Live and learn, if something is important, get it in writing.

I have only recently heard of MPB and I, also, came across a great price on a Nikon 17-55mm f2.8. The transaction involved a trade-in of a Sigma 17-50, and I experience no problems at all. Smooth transaction. Item appears to have not been touched by human hands. Excellent condition. Very pleased.

I have purchased a couple of Canon lenses from MPB. In both cases they were as good as or better than described on their website. The prices were fair. I contacted them once to inquire about selling an almost new camera that I didn't like. They offered me more than anyone else.

I am sorry to hear about a bad experience. I have a hunch that they will go the distance and make it right. Excellent reputations are hard to earn and easy to lose. MBPB doesn't want to lose theirs. A bad review on this discussion thread will cost them far more than the trivial losses of disappointing one customer.

Just so you all know, and can just close out this thread……..the package was just left on my doorstep with no specific delivery date shown other than my walking outside and picking it up. And all I was doing by posting this to begin with was to tell others to beware…..not trying to tell people not to deal with MPB, just to beware.

I have made several purchases from MPB and have sold them an item. I would have said that they were great to deal with until today. I purchased a Nikon P1000 from them but after receiving it, I decided it was way too big for my liking. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and I emailed them to ask for how to return for a refund. They told me that it has been more than 14 days since I received it…..it has not been! ….so they won’t refund it but I could sell it back to them

Ah no!!! So now I’m stuck with this camera and I will certainly never deal with MPB again.

Just beware

I've bought several lenses from them. All were fairly represented, usually in better shape than the rating suggested. I've had prompt delivery and no issues at all. The same can be said for UsedPhotoPro.com (Roberts in Indianapolis). The same can be said for KEH.com (Atlanta). B&H and Adorama are also fair players.

You should have the same tracking and delivery information that they have. No room for error here. Smells fishy. On a personal note, never have I had a MPB issue in buying or selling

Can you tell us the following things.
1. When did you order it?
2. When did you receive it?
3. When did you emailed and ask for return and refund?
4. When did they emailed you and said the 14 days has passed?

The OP doesn't want to say when thing happened and just told us "Don't deal with MPB". I think I have a second class membership on the UHH.

I agree with the sentiment to call and talk to a manager.
