I've been in Samy's Santa Ana store (on Bristol St.) several times, but the only major purchase I've made there was when I bought a 10-24mm Tamron Wide-Angle lens for my Sony A100 and later for my A65 DSLR back in August 2009. I felt that I got a good deal and the people there were always very helpful and friendly.

It's the only big brick and mortar left in my area. Calumet's best person is now the manager of the Santa Ana Samy's and has given me outstanding advice and service. I've also used the Pasadena Samy's and was equally pleased. I totally trust and respect Samy's. I refuse to buy from Amazon if I can get it at Samy's even if I pay a little more. Ever ask Amazon what you're doing wrong? I can call Samy's and get actual advice!

Samy's is the leading camera shop in the Los Angeles area. They have an impeccable reputation.

All the feedback is appreciated. It’s good to know there are other “go to” places around with good reps. Another person mentioned Robert’s in Indiana. Another reputable dealer. For those of you who know, Cameta camera on Long Island closed a while ago. They were a stones throw from where I live. Very good reputation also.

I have used Samy's for many purchases over the years. Most recent is my Olympus 300mm telephoto/macro lens. Never had a problem with them

Anyone familiar with or any experience with this vendor? Saw a used Canon 70-200L II IS at an attractive price.

I live in Los Angeles and have purchased photography equipment from them for years. It is quite an impressive store. I go to the one in the "Mid-Wilshire" area. They have other branches. They are very good about matching prices from B&H, who I use as well, and haven't had any problems with. I can say that Samy's is an excellent store and can recommend them. A lot of pros in the area use them. They are the best camera store in LA. Don't hesitate.

On a personal note, I called on Samy's Camera for a number of years when I was a professional film rep in Los Angeles. Samy himself is one of the nicest, kindest and sincerest men I have known and his company is a reflection of the man.

There’s also one in the San Francisco area. They deal a lot with pros and you can rent most anything from them. They have an excellent reputation.

I go to the one in Pasadena it’s convenient and they have a good selection. One day I went to the one downtown!! OMG 4 levels each the size of the one in Pasadena! I love that place.

Photographers and production companies are their customers.

Speaking of four-levels, the first camera store that I ever visited in Japan was a place on the Ginza which also had four floors. This was in 1982 and I bought a motor-drive for my Minolta XG-M as well as a Minolta flash unit. The name of the store was 'Yodobashi Camera'. It was amazing.

Ditto: "Sounds like they are the B&H of the left coast."

That's been my view for years now.

I was looking at some reviews. Sounds like they are the B&H of the left coast. Being from the East I didn’t know much about them.
