Have one on my garage door, use it for Amazon to drop packages in the garage. No porch pirates. Been doing it for years without a problem.

My theory is that if you can open your garage door with your phone, someone else can open it with their phone!

If you're on an Arctic cruise, and you think you might have left the garage door open, you can close it from your phone. I see a problem, though. Pushing the button on the remote makes the door move to its other position. If it is already closed, then sending a signal with your phone will open it.

I would simply call my neighbor to make sure it was closed.

Nah!! My Grandson, Sam will call me to check the door - luckily, only 5 min away.

You don't need to be so concerned. It doesn't work that way. It requires credentials to log into your Wi-Fi router in order to access your garage opener connected to it. Someone would have to park in your driveway with a supercomputer for weeks-to-years with access to your Wi-Fi signal to break through any decently complex password. Of course, if you leave the factory default "Admin" login and blank password on your Wi-Fi router, then that is a different story.

I have a Chamberlin opener and it can be programmed to automatically close the door after a set time of your choosing. PROBLEM SOLVED.

I prefer to decide when I want it closed.

You can still decide when to close it. Its purpose is to close the door in case you fail to do so after a period of time of your choosing. It can also be overridden easily if need be. Saved me on several occasions. Just an option no one else mentioned.
