Very nice thread.
We have a family membership in the Southern California Railway Museum (aka Orange Empire RR Museum before name change). I haven't been out since Covid hit due to age and health (asthma) but maybe it is time I went back out and renewed my Streetcar Motorman and Train Conductor qualifications. Or because of my bum left leg/knee I will probably volunteer to man the operations office and share the announcing duties which is what I mainly did the last few years before Covid.

And being a member is also a good way to get my cameras in places others don't get much chance at. Though there is one bunch who freak out at my cameras and tripods "You might scratch something." This was in a refurbished railway executive car with beautiful wood paneling. They had to tell them I was doing possible pictures for the museum store and newsletter. Then one of them followed me to make sure I didn't scratch anything. He didn't comprehend, "This gear is expensive, I won't be bashing your woodwork with it."

One of the most interesting railroad related event that I've ever attended was 'Railfair '99', which was hosted by the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, California. It was billed as the last great gathering of steam in the millennium. Note that virtually all of the locomotives were running, including all of the steam locomotives, which was very interesting since, as my wife put it, they seemed like they were living, breathing monsters.

And for the record, I've been a 'card carrying' member of the California State Railroad Museum for over 25-years (and I've got the pins to prove it).
One of the most interesting railroad related event... (show quote)

Thanks so much for all the great pictures - looks to have been your life's work! I especially like - and remember - the Southern Pacific Daylight, with its smooth lines and distinctive color. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, so remember the train station also - but you didn't picture the world-famous Moreton Bay Fig Tree there!

Again, thanks,
Loren - now in Beautiful Baguio City

We've done cars, bicycles and motorcycles. How about locomotives...

I'm a big fan of trains, of all sizes, and have taken many photos over the years.

I'll start with some steam engines, as they're always the most interesting to look at.

Enjoyed this set

One of the few multipage threads that I read start to finish without picking and choosing. Thanks for the collection.

Love these pictures of the old steam engines. I see you visited the Quincy Steam Hoist property in Hancock, Michigan-my hometown for 70 years. When I was a kid I use to play in the Round House where 3 steam engines were parked. All covered in Casmaline or some such preservative. The Round House Office still contained a huge roll-top desk filled with Time Slips. I have many stories related to that property 🙂

As you can see from my signature line, I'm a graduate of Michigan Tech and often make visits back to the 'Copper Country'. Before I retired, I was on campus at least once or twice a year as the university was a partner of ours as they used our software in their engineering curriculum. Also, starting in the Fall, we'll have another excuse to visit as our #4 granddaughter has been accepted into the Chemistry program at Michigan Tech, earning a full, four-year (out-of-state) tuition scholarship. And besides, my brother and his wife live in L'Anse.
