Hi,

I have an Epson 8850 and love it. Requires very little maintenance and head cleaning and makes beautiful 13 x 19 prints.

IPG 1000! Great color, large ink cartridges and added capability to print 16x20. Check out Kieth at northlight images for good review - comparison with epson.

I've only done 11 x 14 so far. Do you print borderlesd or small white border

How long have you had it? Have you had any trouble with overspray? Do you use borderless printing?

For my own printing, I continue to use my Canon Pro-100 and will as long as it continues to work. I hang about a half dozen prints on my walls and change them out if and when I get new "wall hangers". I count as 'elderly' so the dye ink prints will last a lot longer than I will!

Me too.

Ok Hoggers, I'm not a pro but I have sold a few prints. I'm currently without a large format printer and would like to get a new one. I would like one that will print up to 13"x19". Of course larger would be ok too depending on operating cost. The last large format printer I had was the Pixma Pro 100. I don't really want to go back to a cartridge type and would rather go with a tank type ink system. I have been looking at the Epson 8550 and it interest me but I have heard a few mention having trouble with it. Do any of you have experience with it?
I'm not a cheapskate but I'm not loaded either so I would like to keep the cost around a thousand bucks or so.
I have looked at pigment type and dye type and while I would rather go with pigment I don't believe the cost of ink for a pigment printer is practical for me. If someone can educate me more on that I would appreciate it. In fairness to any prospective buyer I do think about the longevity of pigment vs dye.
This printer would be dedicated for photo printing alone as I have printers for other printing needs.
I know it is ultimately my decision but I would greatly appreciate any helpful input.

Look at the jtoolman videos on utube for great information on Epson and Canon printers. Then look at precision colors for supplies ie ink.

I see what you are saying about the cost of ink for the P-700 vs the P-900. With ink for the P-900 almost just half as much as ink for the P-700. I wonder what the deal with that is?
That is something to consider. Do you have experience with the P-900?

No, I have the P800 which has been replaced by the P900. I will get a P900 at some point because it adds a separate channel for Matte Black, avoiding the constant switching along with needless cost, ink waste and $$. Best of luck.

Thanks, I'm still bothered by the things I've read about the 8550 but it is still on my list. I'm leaning toward the P-900, the Canon Pro-1000, and the 8550 at the moment.

I'm on my 5th 8550 since June 2023 all replaced due to ink slopping all over. Overspray got all over the rollers and couldn't be cleaned

Yeah, the 8550 problem does bother me.

I too use a Pro 100 and I could have written that posting. Since I'm 92, I guess that I count as "elderly" also.

But let me tell you this. I have a Pacific oceanscape 13x19, hanging for about 5 years in direct artificial light and indirect sunlight. To my eyes it's still as beautiful as the day I put it up. Harry PS My wife is 71 and since she's in the print, standing on a small beach, surrounde on three sides by large bluffs, she'll probably keep it. Still, I'll never know how long it lasts as I expect her to go to heaven and I doubt that she'll find me there. Harry
