That's scary! I don't think I'd have bothered to take a picture. I'd have been making a mad dash for the truck!

Early morning there are usually no Gators!
Just stepped out of the truck for a quick stop but had the camera in hand as always while in the swamp!
About fifteen feet!
I won't do that again!!

Nice capture Chief.

Nice shot...no pun intended, Chief. Hang your camera around your neck and keep the .357 in your hand...damn that is one ugly freak!!!

Just for safety issues, the "mad dash" is the last thing to do. It is how to trigger an attack from animal in the bush.

Oddly, I am reminded of the joke involving putting on gym shoes and a partner asking "Why?".

Best defense is to avoid surprise confrontations.

At fifteen feet, I'd take my chances on flight instead of calling his bluff.

Oh yeah. I got out of the truck one night years ago walked around back and came face to face with a wild boar. Suddenly I was in the bed of the truck. To this day I have no idea how I got there

An American Alligator can run up to 25mph for short distances. Always be accompanied by a slower person.

Also, Swamps are a type of Forested wetland, marshes are typically herbaceous with small trees and shrubs not dominant

Fifteen feet is too close, Chief. I will only get that close if I'm in my vehicle.

Florida gators don't want ANY part of you. They don't like being peed on though but will leave if you do. DON'T mess with their mates, babies or nests those they will defend as you would yours. We are losing our gators at an alarming rate to ignorance! Crocodiles on the other hand ARE aggressive, we only have a few of them and they are near Florida City where the Everglades meats the Gulf of Mexico.

The gator had every right to believe you were his GrubHub delivery!

I think he had every right to believe that I was the grub! I've spent a lot of time out there and have never seen a gator before the sun was well up, say 9 or 10 AM. This was about 7:30 and fairly cool so I wasn't concerned about Gators. My mistake and it won't happen again.
