I am looking at a Z 24-70 2.8 lens from Nikon and wanted to get your thoughts on buying refurbished. I have never bought any items that were refurbished and would like some input whether positive or negative. Thanks, Grandpaw

I have had excellent experience with both refurbs and used.Nikon 18-140mm from Adorama worked perfectly,I could not tell it from new.My other lenses are like new used.

Several years ago I bought a refurbished D5200 kit from Nikon and it has been great, just like new.

Consider the various UHH brag stories, such as:

a, I bought two, returned the one I didn't like ...
b, I tried it out, decided I didn't like the weight ...
c, I used it for a week, then my wife found out and I had to send it back ...

Each of these scenarios would generate a re-boxed "refurb", an almost (essentially) new item of camera equipment. The warranty is limited, but the price is lower too. A great deal overall, with no more risk that paying more for actually 'new'.

Like Paul says, their loss, your gain. I’m in the Canon world (plus a lonely LUMIX I carry on my bicycle). Almost “all” the Canon compacts, bodies, and lenses were purchased as refurbished (except for that LUMIX).

I buy only refurbished and usually from KEH. No problems whatsoever. Bought a refurbished iPad from Apple. No problems. Refurbished is restored to the factory specs. Be careful between "Refurbished" and "Renewed". Refurbished is to the factory standards, Renewed is simply used.

More urban myth. See many of the replies earlier in the thread.

The obstinance around this topic is, I suppose, relatively benign, since most of the time things seem to work out mostly OK. But the fixation on the urban myth does call into question the accuracy and validity of a lot of answers to a lot of other questions. I would presume that people who are hard-headed and wrong about refurbished are also probably hard-headed and wrong about a lot of other, more important topics.

Like a D850 being the appropriate solution to all photography questions. Just spitballing on this observation ....

That was before I had opportunity to learn that a D500 is a lot better solution for lots of things. I share from what I know about..not from stuff that I think I remember hearing about.

It depends on where you get it. There are a lot of bad dealers but I have used KEH, MPG, B&H and Adorama, all legitimate businesses where you can get high quality camera gear at fair prices.

Spitballing or sound more like you are frothing at the mouth. Urban myth...any chance you get to troll....Apple actually does restore to factory specs. I guess we haven't heard the last from you. Signing off from this thread. Will wait to see who you belittle next. Not looking forward to it though.

I purchased a refurb Nikon 200-500 lens from Nikon and it is perfect. Delivery was quick and it had everything with it. I would do it again, if I needed another lens.
