So here I am in Cambodia with a less than three day old camera and I can’t get a good overall setting for shots. Recommendations? I just graduated from a20 year old 5300…
Are you bragging’ or complaining’? 🤭🫣

Me thinks the OP,
tkmp8, bought the D850 cuz' he/she/they were not getting good/decent images with the D5300 Nikon (a
Highly Capable Nikon camera body). Also - me thinks he/she/they did not use/learn said D850 before goin' on a trip.
I'm probably wrong on all accounts with this - I frequently am!! Still fun speculating, though!!

Try setting P mode for Programmed Auto Mode. This way the camera will set the needed shutter speed and aperture or f stop.

Me think the OP didn't like us asking him questions.
I set my D850 to Program mode (P)
ISO about 400-500
Control my shutter speed or depth of field with the control dial.
Spin right for faster speeds and spin left for slower speeds.
Nothing could be easier than (P)rofessional mode with AUTO ISO.

I think the OP isn't a professional and is not allowed to us this mode.

Did you get full frames lens? My understanding is DX lens are the best for FF and even then you need to use Crop mode if I have read correctly
Don't the FF bodies automatically default to "DX" mode if the camera detects that type of lens has been attached? Therefore there would be no need to "use" crop mode, it would already BE that.
All the more reason to think about purchasing a new device (camera) just before taking a major trip and not learning its features.

Especially for something as pricey as the D850. If one is not sure how something works, then perhaps something like a D3400 would be more in order.
I guess you can put it in Auto mode and run with it also auto ISO Hard to figure out what you really talking about.

There is no full Auto mode or scene modes on a D850 since its is considered a professional camera. The closest he can come to that would be P Mode.

You know a pro camera like the world's best DSLR doesn't have a consumer-grade <AUTO> / Green Box feature, right?

Put the camera in program mode if you want to use it until you can learn the camera. Yes the camera won't get every shot correct but it will out perform you at your current skill level.
Only a rank neophyte worries about shooting modes...professionals don't ask each other about camera settings.
