Ron, what a blessing in your garden. She's a variety of Argiope (yellow garden spider) and those are her egg sacks. You may not have noticed the male for they are much smaller and they don't "hang around" like the girls. They are highly beneficial as a form of natural pest control. They are harmless to humans and a joy to observe.
It would be fantastic if you could get some shots of the little ones when they emerge.
Thanks Gary, we've had a few of them in our garden over recent years and I always love watching them. With all those egg "sacks" it's surprising we don't have more of them...
