She's been in our garden for a couple of weeks now. Something I noticed in her web are these "pods". When I first saw them, a few days ago, I thought they were part of the bush but on looking closer I saw they are in her web.,
Has anyone got any idea what they are. You can see that they are quite large compared to her..?
Cheers,
Ron.

I thought that as well Jack but other spiders only have one egg sack..last week I saw only one and now she has three. I'll check up every day and see if she ads more...??
Do they (spiders in general) need a male to be able to produce eggs...?

Very interesting, Ron. I'm pretty certain they are body bags.

Ron, what a blessing in your garden. She's a variety of Argiope (yellow garden spider) and those are her egg sacks. You may not have noticed the male for they are much smaller and they don't "hang around" like the girls. They are highly beneficial as a form of natural pest control. They are harmless to humans and a joy to observe.

It would be fantastic if you could get some shots of the little ones when they emerge.
