This is happening with my 70-200. Sometimes I have to turn the focus ring to get it working. If you are sending your lens to Nikon can you share how much they quoted? Thank you

When I was still a Nikon User, My 70-200 F2.8 was one of my faves. The autofocus sent on it and it cost a mint to have nikon fix it. They did do a good job and 6 years later, mt friend is still using it, BUT I decided after that, no more repairs for me. It would be a better thig to buy a used lens in excellent condition from a reliable store

Yes, i had this happen to my lens. I tried all the fixes that i could think of and it would work for a while but would fail when i needed it of course. I sent it into Nikon to have it fixed. it took awhile do to part shortages, but i have it now and works great. $750.

My Nikon 300 2.8 does the same thing. After the season I will send it to Nikon.
Good luck and let us know how this turns out.

My 35-70 AF DX lens will sometimes hunt in AF. I swith to Manual for a while and try again.
ALSO, AF can get confused...

Thanks the only way I can get it working again is to rotate the manual ring back and forth a number of times to the stops and it will work again for a short time. It is on it's way to Nikon.

Yes unfortunately at your expense I will get some king of idea of what mine will cost.
It was missing the focus like yours have to turn the ring just a bit or focus on something far or near to make it work again.
Thanks Jesterman

When the 300 2.8 works it's a beautiful thing. Great lens. I bought it used from a ugg member and got a terrific price but I knew it had a problem from day one and it would cost me to fix it.
