I would recommend the Canon PIXMA Pro 200. Have had mine for a year now and it's excellent.

Check out videos and/or fb group of JToolman. Jose is a photo printer fanatic who has vast experience with all major photo printers. He has been very impressed with the capability of his ET 8550. I believe he has about 15 different printers in his space. If my 13 year old Epson XP-950 died tomorrow I'd buy an ET8550. "Knock on wood" I almost hope it does.

I used the Epson ET7750 for a lot of everyday color printing, as well as for photos. I kept the sponge clean and replaced the waste tank as needed. It still gave me lots of problems. I frequently had to do printhead cleanings because of clogged nozzles. The first two that failed were covered by Epson's warranty and they sent me new printers. Then, it broke own again, out of warranty. I live in Raleigh, NC. To have it serviced I would have needed to pay for shipping to Charlotte, NC plus shipping expense. At that point, I was disgusted with the printer and with Epson so I took it to a local recycing center and scrapped it.

I can understand that, Epson seem to have no interest in rectifying problems, just replace in warranty period, then you're on your own...

I bought the Epson et 8550 and I'm on the 5th one since June. I took huggers advice and stopped printing bordetless and have a white border. So this is the 5th one since June and now I'm getting some ink smudges on the white borders.
I've had enough. This unit cost me $850 but it had large size prints and ink tanks. I'm going to call them now.
I would avoid this unit

I would recommend the Canon Prograf 300. I replaced my Pro 10 with it and have no issues with it. It has never smudged a white border and the overall quality of the finished prints is beautiful. Good luck.

I had the Epson ET 7750 and went through three of them. It was very hard to keep the ink flowing and, after the third breakdown I decided I am through with Epson forever.

On the rare occasions when the nozzles weren't clogged and it didn't smeat the prints, it did produce some beautiful prints but the effort to keep it going was more than I could tolerate.

Now, I have a Canon Pixma Pro 200 and am very happy with everything but the ink cost.

After having a number of Epson printers dies just after the warranty ended I will never buy them again. Canon has been great for me..

Unfortunately the price of the Canon replacements are more than $500 plus they come with starter ink so you will buying ink soon at a huge cost. Canon does have an ink tank printer but it only has 4 colors. I want an ink tank printer with pro colors! Until then I will send my prints out.

That's not true. The Canons come with full cartridges especially the Prograf 300 and 1000. The 1000 uses more ink in the setup because the ink has to fill long tubes to the head but the cartridges are completely full at the beginning.

You’re not gonna get that in a real photo printer. I have an all-in-one printer. It sits right next to my 13x19 photo printer.

Highly recommend you stick with Canon and I would get the Pro 200, it’s approximately $500.00 currently. Reading complaints on UHH the overwhelming majority of complaints are wit Epson printers. Many of us bought the Canon Pro 100 and are still using them with no issues especially if using OEM ink.

The Pro 200 is $550 at all the usual places. It is an 8 color photo specific printer but uses dye ink. The OP is trying to replace the Pro 10 that used pigment inks that met his stated requirement of "Professional level inks that minimize fading".

The printer that replaces his Pro 10 is the "Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-300". It uses pigment inks. The problem is that it is $850 at the usual places.

Sorry to hear that. I have the same printer and have not had any issues. I did screw up one time and had the paper wrong side up that was a mess. Ran plain paper through 5 times to clean out the ink. No problems since. I did find the borders are better and that I get the best results using the Epson photo tools vs the photo editing applications. That said it is over $800 but over the years the cartridge systems I have used I guess I spent 3 times that easily.

Yes, because brand new right out of the factory could never have a faulty head!
