To me, it is saying that I am not an expert in the area. It is saying I may be wrong and am open to changing my opinion. Now if you ask me something I am very knowledgeable about, then I would be less inclined to use the H. Let's face it, we all know a little about a lot, and a lot about a little.

Many years ago I was introduced to IMHO as 'in my humble opinion'. Today, I favor leaving it as IMHO. Leave the interpretation up to the reader.

They could very well think it means 'in my harebrained opinion'.

Why do you feel the need to be polite when expressing an opinion?

Putting the "civil" in "civilization".

I am kind of wondering why folks add the 'H' when giving their opinion.

Either you have an opinion or you do not. If you qualify it as 'humble' you weaken it, basically typing it isn't worth much.

Instead, use either IMO or IMOO. The later meaning is only your own, based on your own experience, and not related to anyone else's.

IMHO as 'Humble'? Phooey.

In my never to be assumed as anything humble opinion, you are missing the point. Why, instead, does everyone insist on doing the acronym thing in the first place. If you are that short of time, skip the whole act which required the shortening in the first place. DYGMD?

Thanks for bringing this up. IMHO (lol) people who use acronyms either think of it as being "Cool", or they are lazy and want to save themselves some time and energy typing. I confess that I have been one of the latter but I am trying to not use them as much. I have the same issue with people who overuse emojis leaving a series of them and expect people to understand what they are trying to convey. If I wanted to spend my time on a message board doing picture puzzles I would find a website that focuses that activity.

DYGMD...Do you get my drift. Sometimes it's fun, a bit of a challenge to figure them out. I really don't think it's case of being lazy.

IMHO is just being polite. It seems we need much more of that on this site.

Why use it at all? Obvivously if you are submitting a statement, its your opinion unless you are quoting someone else. However if you if you feel that what you have to say is of a special grade, then you could start off with "IMEO". The "E" is for "exalted" . Thomsenic suggested "E" for esteemed. That is appropriate if your opinions have been deemed worth considering by others. Exalted is when when you have given yourself the stamp of superiority.

Yes, it is fun to solve puzzles and it is also intellectually stimulating as well. However, in a great many cases, acronyms interfere with clear communication and therefore have limited if non-existent value to that end.

LOL, but then is "my way" the same as "my own way"? (not to Frank!)

The 'H' used as sarcasm? It is a possibility I did not think of. Still not welcomed thought because in that case you dismiss everyone else.

IMOO same as IMO? Not quite. IMO involves other folk's experience, even their opinions. IMOO means that the opinion is created from a very personal experience that cannot be shared.

As an example, I was in a coma for a few days, then in ICU for about three weeks. My opinion of the health care I experienced is from a unique POV so few if any can relate to it. My appreciation of the folks who worked on me from lowly kitchen staff to the top-notch surgeons is based on that, nothing else. Note, 'lowly' is not a diss, far from it. I just do not want to omit them because while hidden and working in the background they did a bang-up job too.

So, my opinion because a 'MOO' from a 'MOE' (experience) which might be more accurate, come to think of it.

Ok then, let's replace IMOO with IMOE.
No opinion is humble. Either you have or you do n... (show quote)

I would think most of your opinions are fairly humble.

IMO - IMO is the way to go. If you're offering your opinion, you're automatically not being humble.
