Great series, Joe. I really like #6 with the junk and cruiseship - quite a contrast. Beautiful shots of the harbor. I'm longing for something other than cold and snow. Your images are a delight each mornig. Thanks.

Thank you Rowedean, yes, #10 shows the old and new together, I took that shot out of the window of a restaurant as we were having lunch, I liked the way the two boats contrasted and blended together. Glad that my shots bring some warmer feelings into your snowy landscape - but remember, in the heat of the summer we just might dream of these winter scenes!

Excellent set of this harbor area Joe! The haze around this area is really something but your images of these buildings were still great!
Interesting narrative, and great shots, as usual!! I was surprised to see that raptor shot from you but it too tells its own story in such an urban environment!

Thanks Rob, you are right of course about the haze, that's the tropics for you. Normally, the months of November and December have the lowest humidity, but even then it is still about 70%, the highest month on the average is April with 83%. Add to that the pollution of a major city with a high population density, and the result is going to be a considerable haze and that, pared with the heat, can make it pretty uncomfortable, especially in the hot summer months. Most of these images were taken on November 3 at 1pm, when it was still very hazy, images #5 & 6 were taken on November 29 at 2pm, and these appear quite a bit clearer. Even though a good part of Hong Kong is very densely populated, there are actually plenty of open, green spaces on the hills and islands, except in Hong Kong Central and Kowloon, so we do find quite a bit of birds in the area, it is rather unusual though to see raptors over the harbor waters. In about a week or so I will have quite some bird shots from the New Territories.

Thank you, Joe, glad to hear that you enjoyed the boat compositions - besides the "double decker trams", these Star Ferry boats are THE iconic mode of transportation in HK. Interesting to hear that besides our names and photography, we also share a professional background, were you working within the US or internationally?

Within the US mostly but did have a job in Spain on one occasion.

Interesting - Spain is always a rewarding location.

This is another interesting collection. The colors and contrast of the first 7 photos are especially interesting.

Thank you Ellen for your kind comment. Glad you liked this collection. You make an interesting comment: Except for the two images #5 and 6, all the rest were taken on the Star Ferry ride, practically at the same time. But you are right, the last 3 images look somewhat different from the earlier ones. When I processed these images in late 2013 or early 2014, I was still doing very minimal processing on Picasa, and I can only guess that the orientation of the view - towards the East for the earlier ones and to the West for the later ones made this visible difference. The other two images, #5 and 6, were taken about a month later and the atmospheric conditions were probably quite different, ie less humid.
