Why? What does the admin has to do with external connection speed?
It's not the admin of the site, it's the Internet Service Provider (ISP). The ISP controls many aspects of the Internet connection. Chief among them are the download and upload speeds.

... Did not see it this way. You are likely right.
My apologies to CG_Canon.
Amazon does backup your folder structure. On a windows system you can access your backed up photo folders in several ways. One is at the top right of your page there is an upside down v - click that, then amazon drive, then backup- you will see you backup device folder structure. Alternately, from the main screen - click albums- a folder appears in the upper right- select it- then backup.
When I upload photos anywhere, I never do gigabytes at one time. It has taken just a few seconds to send individual pictures to Amazon - the same with Google Photos.
PHRubin wrote:
worse than all that - the result is a backup of photos all in the same folder. It doesn't keep your folder structure.
Currently I have 22 folders on Amazon Drive. These folders are named like CATS, JOSIE, XMAS, VEGAS and so on. When I upload a photo I upload it to the appropriate folder. Later, when viewing my photo's with the Amazon PHOTO app on my TVFirestick, I can select any of the folders, or, view ALL the folders, or view ALL pics I selected as FAVORITES. You can mark and unmark photo's as FAVORITES right from your TV.
Anyway, if you upload all your photo's to the same folder, they will all be in the same folder. Otherwise, upload to the folder you wish.
Amazon is not a backup service per se, it is for unlimited photo storage. If you tell it to upload a folder, it will. It will not back up sub-folders and create a directory structure for you like a true cloud back up service would do, nor does it accept non-photo files anymore.
After you get a true cloud back up service, and IF you have a $40 Firestick, then use Amazon Drive/Photo to display all your amazing photo's on any TV hooked up to a Firestick.

I’m a little confused with Amazon’s announcement that Amazon Drive goes away at the end of the year. They imply that some files that are also on Amazon Photo will also deleted when AD is shutdown. I’ve already removed everything I had on AD, but haven’t touched content I’ve uploaded to AP. Can anyone shed some light on this? Are photos that are backed up on AP vulnerable to deletion.

The did, but as of Jan 1 they only provide free, unlimited photo backups.
Doesn't Amazon limit photos to jpeg only?

No worries. I've been misreading with more frequency, it seems, of late ...
Clouds vs external hard drive?

Yes, very confusing. I have all my TV files saved locally in a TV folder, so I won't get burned if they mess with my photo's. I fully expected AMAZON DRIVE to disappear with only AMAZON PHOTO"S remaining after Jan 1 2023. This never happened, I still upload to the folders on Amazon drive, just like always, and all my photo's/folders come up on my Amazon Firestick PHOTO's TV app just as before. I never uploaded non-photo files so I can't say if they dumped all non-photo files or not.
I have three external hard drives to keep my photos on

Any type of photo far as I know. JPG, PNG, BMP, even PSD and RAW. Every once in a while I mistakenly drag a HUGE PSD file to Amazon and it takes even that. There is no size limit to the file and they give UNLIMITED storage for photo's, if you have AMAZON PRIME.
Just for laughs, I just uploaded an .EXE file and it took it. They said this would end 1/1/23 but apparently not. I would not recommend using Amazon for non-photo files though, and I would not rely on Amazon for primary backup of photo files either. Not sure what they're up to at the moment, but so far, things appear the same as before.
I highly recommend using Amazon for EASY display of your
amazing photo's on your TV. Works great, and everyone can experience the pleasure of viewing your
fantastic photo work on your giant TV screens. If you already have a $40 firestick and Amazon Prime, you'd be nutz not to take advantage of it. I guess I should add they also give you 5 gig free movie storage as well, and also display those on your TV with the firestick.

It sounds like the earlier explanations for your internet provider slowing service are likely, but if you want to know why your computer is running slowly, press ctrl-alt-del to bring up performance monitor and check performance of CPU, memory, storage and network and what processes are using the most resources. And to check your internet speed, open Ookla Speedtest in your browser and run it.
Ookla is my speed test too. I just checked it.

Notice the upload speed! That is the speed of uploading photos to Amazon. I have approximately 1.6 TB of photos. I did upload them to Amazon. It took over a week. I back them up to two externals and one internal. I would not want to lose them, but quite honestly, if I lost them today, tomorrow would still be a good day.
