I am an Amazon Prime member for years. So I thought I would take advantage of Amazons free to Prime members photo storage. Has taken 5 days to backup my photos to Amazon's cloud. (It's still at only 95%) so I pause the backup.

Here's the issue: even with the backup paused my internet connection has slowed to a snails pace. It reminds me of in the past when you could watch a picture scrolling slowly open to be completed.

Has anyone experience this issue? I'm serioiusly thinking of uninstalling the Amazon Photos program.

Slow, here, too. Backing up only about 8000 images, has taken over a week (not going 24/7). Still have about 350 left. Slower than molasses in winter.

I'm not so concerned about the slowness of the backup, I can live with that. I'm concerned about how slow my computer is running, even when the backup is turned off.

I think your problem is not with Amazon Photo but with your provider. Many providers have a provision in the contract that specifies that after X amount of data usage in a billing period you revert to dial-up speed until the next billing cycle. You might want to check with your provider to see if that's what is happening here.

You might also want to check on how to empty your cashed memory. Check with your computer manufacturer.

Mine has this 'feature' too. Our OP should investigate this potential issue.

Does Amazon only backup photos?
What about other files?
Docs, spreadsheets, manuals, bills, receipts, ...

They currently do backup other files but they are ending that program this month and any files you have on Amazon Drive must be downloaded by the end of this year.

I think the issue may be with your Internet provider. Internet service providers may intentionally slow down speeds to limit the total amount of bandwidth consumed to minimize network congestion or even to charge more for using more bandwidth. Internet throttling is common with mobile and wireless Internet providers. Also, errors maybe occurring with the upload and Amazon Photos may be trying to upload the same files again and again.

Small external hard drives are relatively inexpensive for backup and you may want to use Amazon's service for fewer photos, or as a backup to the hard drive backup.

The did, but as of Jan 1 they only provide free, unlimited photo backups.

I use Amazon all the time to store my TV photo's (Favorite photo's resized for HD TV viewing, which Amazon provides a free PHOTO app if you have an Amazon Fire Stick ($40) I don't use Amazon to store full size files, rather I have my own back-up drives for that. Anyway, I never have an issue uploading these small files to Amazon, but, upload speeds are ALWAYS far, far slower than Download speeds, so uploading a ton of huge files will take time of course. Personally, if you want a cloud back up for your PC, Amazon is not what you should use. Plenty of other cloud backups designed specifically for this purpose.

Amazon Drive/Photo is perfect for displaying your amazing photo's on all your TV's. Eventually, all you friends that come over and drink your beer and eat your snacks will disappear. Much like the old slide show days but MUCH easier.

If you're running Windows, any version, all sorts of strange things can happen to slow down your PC and the first thing I would do is re-boot. That's the goto cure for many hard to find Win problems. If that doesn't fix it, happy hunting and good luck, you'll probably need it. You could always take it to a Win genius, and he'll erase your HD and reinstall Win, and if that doesn't work, he likely try to sell you a new computer.

worse than all that - the result is a backup of photos all in the same folder. It doesn't keep your folder structure.

It sounds like the earlier explanations for your internet provider slowing service are likely, but if you want to know why your computer is running slowly, press ctrl-alt-del to bring up performance monitor and check performance of CPU, memory, storage and network and what processes are using the most resources. And to check your internet speed, open Ookla Speedtest in your browser and run it.

Why? What does the admin has to do with external connection speed?
