That could have worked - you basically have our gap years there, we got married in HK in 1971, then moved to Canada and moved back to Hong Kong in 1979. But we spent a month of vacation in HK in late fall 1975 and then were permanently there from September 1979 on - until 1984. Those were interesting times when HK was in full swing with great expansion projects, land reclamations, etc. - and no thoughts of handing HK back to China yet. Also, the international banks were moving in (that's what I was there for) so things were very positive. - Good shared memories, Chief!

Nicely photographed set Joe, showing the local butcher shops and markets. I have to admit though that some of whats on display doesn't look to appealing to me.

Nice photos! But all that meat out with no refrigeration would make me nervous.

Another set of wonderful market images, Joe. Great detail in the downloads. I was hoping that you would include images of the meat and seafood stalls. I’m always fascinated when visiting markets to see freshly butchered meat sitting unrefrigerated. Especially loved seeing the great variety of seafood balls. I like that you include the map in your posts.

Yep, it's possible! I was stationed on Guam, then the Philippines, and back to Guam. Spent an awful lot of time on aircraft carriers during that period. Pulling in to Hong Kong two or three times a year.
Did you ever make it to Taiwan? I was in Taipei and Tainan a number of times. Usually just a remain over night (RON) in small aircraft for fuel and crew rest on our way to somewhere else. But spent more time (a day or two) on occasion. Very interesting time and places.

I think I would have a reluctance to purchase meat at the market - definitely not chicken feet. Never heard of fish balls. Thanks for this series, Joe. Have a good day.

The beef looks really good. Some of the rest of it not so much!

That is a lot of meat, Is it all sold same day? Is there refrigeration for it if not? Pictures made me want to try some new things like the sausage and fish rolls

Thank you Vince, glad you found this set interesting, like you I wouldn't touch some of these offerings, but is is interesting to see what gets sold.
