I have an adapter with several types of prongs. Get one that will handle more than charging a toothbrush. Then I attach a three plug outlet tp provide more ability to charge and run more stuff than one charger.

Thanks. I have put two of these in our cart. The extension cord is not available. The only things we will have to charge are my batteries. We will have to buy disposable phones since our Tracfone phones don't work overseas. Have to research that. Not sure about charging disposable ones.

Definitely bring a multi port USB charger. You may find a shortage of easily accessible sockets in the places you stay. If your Tracfone is a smart phone you should bring it in preference to a disposable phone. You should be able to get a local pay-as-you-go SIM card for your Tracfone at any little phone shop - they are everywhere. You can usually get a SIM card with umpteen gig of data for around 10 dollars - more than enough for internet and GPS for a couple of weeks. The store will usually install it for you and show you had to reinstall the home one when you get back. It only takes 10 seconds. Make sure your phone is not 'locked' by your home carrier before you leave. If the phone is paid off, the carrier can unlock it for you over the phone or website.

thanks. That is nice to know.

My wife and I lived for most of the time from January 2014 through August 2016 in Albania. While there we also traveled to several pf tje surrounding countries and even spent most of a week in Barcelona, Spain.

My advice is to make sure you have a half dozen or more plug adapters. Only once did we use the voltage converter, we had brought with us. And make certain that the electrical devices you have with you are dual voltage and frequency. All small appliances and camera equipment should have a sticker or label showing acceptable voltage ranges and frequencies. Below is an example. In a large box store or appliance store the packaging will give this information or you can ask a clerk to see the device out of its packaging and check the info on the device itself. These electrical characteristic tags come in all kinds of shapes and material.

As to extension cords, we bought 2-meter ones with three or four outlets very inexpensively in Albania. That way you have ones designed for the 240-v systems in use in Europe. But you will need those plug adaptors.

Just remember some of your physics or physical science from middle or high school (or college!) Ohm's Law: V=IR and the electrical power law: P=VI.

Enjoy your visit to Spain and Portugal. --Richard

We were in Spain, France, and Italy, back in October. All our chargers and power adapters worked fine on 220/240 volts @ 50Hz with the plug adapter linked in the first response here.

We never travel with anything electrical or electronic that isn't marked as "100-240 volts, 50/60 Hz AC". Most hotels and VRBO or Air B&B type places have irons and hair dryers, anyway. The tourist apartment we stayed in Barcelona did. Our cruise ship supported all voltages in the staterooms.

Do secure your valuables. Pick pockets are everywhere. Several people around us were hit, including our local tour guide in Aix en Provence.

Our T-Mobile iPhones worked fine at low data speeds for emails and text messaging. Phone calls were $.25/minute. Faster data plans are available for reasonable fees. We did find that our iPhones kept trying to upload our smartphone photos to iCloud, draining the batteries rather rapidly. I turned off that feature until we got back to where we could plug into AC.

Sorry to hear about pick-pockets. Are the going after photography gear too? 😢

Thanks

I carry a standard US surge protector with multiple outlets. Then you just need one plug adaptor to plug the surge protector into the wall socket and you are good to go.
