My husband and I are planning a trip to Portugal and Spain late April. Haven't been out of the States for 50 years. Naturally, I am taking my camera, a Nikon D7100, and will need to charge the batteries a number of times. What, exactly, do I need to buy for an adapter? Thanks.

We traveled extensively in both Portugal and Spain in April of 2022. These three items worked well for us. Also, you might consider bringing some type of extension cord (like #3 below) as we found some of the smaller hotels had a very limited number of electrical outlets. We had lots of batteries, phones, laptops, etc to charge every night.

You only need to have an adapter so that the plug will fit. There is no need to convert the voltage or frequency. The charger will work from 100 to 240V and either 50 or 60Hz.

I’m with Bebu. Most chargers today will adjust to whatever voltage is coming out of the wall whether it’s 120v or 240v & 50hz or 60hz. All you really need is a plug adapter.

Yep - we just returned from Lisbon Portugal the 1st of Dec - the hotel we stayed at had USB ports in the outlets so we didn't need our plug adapters. Check with the hotel you're staying at and see what they have...

Thanks. I have put two of these in our cart. The extension cord is not available. The only things we will have to charge are my batteries. We will have to buy disposable phones since our Tracfone phones don't work overseas. Have to research that. Not sure about charging disposable ones.

Not sure where we will be staying. It's tour package, some in hotels, some on a cruise ship. I'll take an adapter just in case.

The things you have to worry about voltage is really you hair dryer and the iron for cloth. If you don't bring those with you then it's not a problem. I mentioned them because my wife insist on bringing the hair dryer on trip.

Be careful with the hair dryer. I have seen several instances of hair dryers getting ruined by the wrong voltage.

Okay. No, I will do without a dryer and an iron. I will just look like I walked out of Appalachia.

You will probably find many hotels have irons and/or hair dryers.

I purchased a couple of extension cords with USB charge outlets. I made sure they were 120v 240v compatible and had a European plug to fit wherever we would be. With that, the longer cord made access easier and no need to have individual plug adapters for all my electronics.
