You're talking about EXIF data. It doesn't even display for the utter novice to notice and feel intimidated. You know that, right?

That information may be imbedded in EXIF, but often it is actually displayed in an ugly “watermark”, the part that actually ‘discourages’ amateur thieves - and puts off the rest of us.

Water freezes at 32F. What other irrelevant topics can we identify? The camera updates suggested in the OP have nothing to do with visual watermarks applied later.

Moreover, watermarks and EXIF data have nothing to do with creating registered copyrights that can be defended / enforced in legal proceedings, the really failing of this entire thread.

I don’t use those ugly ‘watermarks’. I thought that maybe they were generated automatically by PP from the EXIF, but I’ll believe you this one time.

Yup, true, but it's there hiding. Even better. Not talking about watermarks here.

Thanks for a personal example of the usefulness of the image exf data.

Years ago one of the members on this site was regularly posting my pictures as his and telling how and where he had taken the picture. I contacted the administrator and ask them to look at the EXF data and copyright info to the photos he was posting which proved he was stealing my photos. And they dealt with him. Problem was corrected due to my name and copyright added to each picture.

Just to be clear: the user / camera owner Name in the EXIF data and / or the camera s/n is the relevant information, not the YYYY nor 'copyright', the data being proposed in the OP.

Most of us have all that info in our camera year after year, the only part that needs updating is the year itself.

No useless year, no update needed.
