I finally bit the "bullet" 2 weeks ago after tiring of the continuous automated msgs asking if I wanted to do the free upgrade. Before I did anything, I went to each application vendor & verified that each application was 100 % compatible with the 64 bit version of W11. Then I backed up all data onto 2 4 TB external disk drives. Total time for the actual upgrade took about an hour. Biggest difference I've noticed is the graphics. As of this time, I have no issues with any application, except for MS Office 2019, so I removed it and went back to an earlier version (MSO 2013).

There is a saying -if it ain't broke don't fix it. There is no big reason to upgrade an old computer. There is not a huge difference between the two operating systems. Upgrade when you buy a new computer. I have both Win 10 and 11.

Glad to hear you say that. I had thought to start a topic on "Why should I upgrade to Windows 11?" rather than if it would work well. I insisted that my new Puget Systems computer come with 10 rather than 11, and they were happy to oblige.

Does anybody have any 1st hand experience w/upgrading fm Windows 10 64bit to Win11?

I mean in terms of Lightroom, Photoshop, any of the Topaz apps, esp DeNoise AI, Sharpen, & Gigapixel; & w/hardware like Wacom Tablet & TourBox Elite…

Any tips, warnings, gotchas, bugs & work-arounds, would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I did same with absolutely no issues. It was easy and pretty fast - about 1/2 hour to download and 40 minutes to install. I did mine about 2 months ago.

No issues at all. Left my printer and router on, upgraded - took less than 1 hour. Everything works great. I like Windows 11 more and more each time I learn something new that that the system provides. I use Affinity Photo1.9 and 2.03. No issues with either one.

I have only 1 Machine, a Dell XPS 8930, that meets all of the W11 Requirements.
I actually upgraded to 11 @ my Wife's suggestion. [Surprise]

I do NOT use LR/ PS etc, so I can NOT answer that part of your question.

There ARE some changes in how W11 supports intrinsic photo processing.
This will not be an issue for you if you are using LR/PS etc.

As our Retirement Community shares an Enterprise Network, I kept my HP 7740 on USB and upgrade was seamless for it. [Hardwired]

Good Luck!

Check to see if your computer can be updated. My 2017 laptop win 10 could not be upgraded so I didn't buy it.

I did not upgrade from Win 10 to 11, but I bought a new computer with Win 11 on it. The Topaz apps work fine. Photoshop Elements works fine. In fact, all of the old programs I had installed on my old computer work fine on the new one. So I would say no reason to hesitate.

Magic words "I did not upgrade." I have not gone from 10 to 11 as an upgrade (and won't), but I did try going from 8 to 10 once. Big mistake. In spite of the Microsoft assurances, about half of my old software no longer worked. This was the latest versions of each which I installed during the 2/3 years I was on 8. If you try it, good luck. Better probably to just wait until you can't stand not having the latest and buy something with 11 already installed. Of course, then you get to re-install all your old stuff. With subcriptions this is fine, but many of the stand-alone packages will no longer allow you to install more than once. Can't win, can we?

I did one of my desktops, all was good BUT the sound was wonky. It undoubtedly is a motherboard thing so I went to the GPU (they *will* handle sound) and, with a ground loop isolator added, works fine. I found a guy who does trick work so stopped doing this drudgery myself, so don't ask how the GPU thing was accomplished, lol, maybe you'll have better luck 'cuz I run all my sound through splitters and a mixer...sheesh, I know...but I actually like 11!

I got a new laptop with Win 11. My Office 2007 which ran fine with Win 10 would not work well with Win 11. Editing an older document resulted in the font becoming Cyrillic instead of English. I thought the Russians were hacking me.
My old Brother printer won't format correctly, and the scan function with Control Center 3 won't work at all.

My photo editing stuff seems to work fine.

I purchased a new HP Omen desktop with Windows 11 sometime in March. My Windows 10 was kept as a backup. I had numerous crashes, as many as three in one hour. I completely teinstalled Windows 11. There was no change. HP took my computer for a few weeks and replaced the graphics card but it made no difference. Eventually, after several months and maintaining the latest updates for all software and the OS, it stopped crashing. It works well now. I don't know if it was an Adobe, Nvidia, Microsoft, or some other upgrade that fixed it. My advice is be certain to use latest available software. I use Lightroom and Photoshop, primarily. I think you will be good with the upgrade. Good luck!

I have not encountered any issues with program compatibility since upgrading to Windows 11. That includes all of the software that you mentioned. In fact, after using Win 11 for awhile now I actually like it. At least for me it has been very stable and after making a few adjustments the user interface is for me as easy to use as Windows 10. Hardware compatibility was also not an issue for me but if you have really ancient devices like a legacy printer then you might run into an issue with driver support. Something to consider.

I understand that others may have had different experiences with switching from Win 10 to 11 but I am relatively certain that software compatibility is not one of the problems that they encountered. Maybe if someone is still using much older versions of said software there may be an issue. Oh, one other thing, I would highly recommend that you go into settings and switch off some of the privacy and notification options. It is not complicated to do this and you will protect your privacy and not be inundated with useless notifications.

I left my old desktop on !0 and upgraded the laptop to 11.

My biggest gripe is that I can't move the task bar to the top of the screen. My PhotoShop CS5 still works just fine on Win 11.

This is exactly why I reverted back to 10 from 11 afTer trying it. Cannot move the taskbar. I have it on the right side of my screen on all of my computers, cannot move from bottom to right. I think you can put it on the top, but not sure.

I updated from 10 to 11, had no problems with adobe and no problems with Topaz, though I did have to reinstall it.
