If your neighbor had a Ring doorbell, maybe there is a video of the thefy and you can use that as proof to UPS, Ebay, the seller and the credit card company that the item was wrongfully delivered and stollen.

It’s not an eBay issue. I had virtually the same experience with a sale made through this site. USPS claimed that a lens was delivered; recipient says it wasn’t. I believe the purchaser. The lens was insured, but USPS denied the claim because they said (of course) that it had been delivered. I refunded the purchase price, and we are both out a lens.

But in this case USPS delivered to the wrong address so there is some culpability there. That being said when I sell on eBay it’s always insured and I require a signature.

I agree with the consensus that the delivery company was at fault. It is impossible for them to deny that they dropped it off at the wrong address even though it was a neighbor. The second point is that if it was "okay" for them to leave it on the neighbor's porch, why did they not leave it on yours? What's their logic on that one?

The moral of the story is to arrange shipping terms that require signed certification and if that is not possible, arrange delivery to their local point of shipping for your personal pickup. Yes, a bit inconvenient, however, so is paying for a camera that you did not receive.

Purchased camera $778.00
Shipped with tracking
Tracking email says delivered
Go outside not there
Go to post office,
Long story short delivered to my neighbor (per GPS on mail truck)
Trust my neighbor, he did get it, must have gotten porch pirated
eBay denied any claim, seller won't communicate
Post office said to file clam but need the sellers name and address to do so
Home owners needs a police report and has 500 deductible
Filed a claim with Mastercard see what happens
Purchased camera $778.00 br Shipped with tracking ... (show quote)

I always do "adult signature" required with any USPS shipments (anything over $100), a D7200 camera I sold to a UHH member prior to Christmas, delivery was held up for a day or two until my purchaser could be there for delivery....it worked well, as it has in the past. I highly recommend the "adult signature" requirement.

Wow! That's a mess! The PO should take responsibility for misdirecting the mail. That happens here quite a bit - PO and UPS. I now have external cameras, and when I install them, I'll be able to see what happened a few hours ago.

When there are so many entities involved, it's easy to pass the blame. That's a lot of money to lose.

I've had similar things happen twice for smaller amounts of money. In one case, a scammy seller somehow got ahold of an Amazon tracking number. That showed that a package was delivered - to someone else in my town. I didn't order it from Amazon, so after dealing the PO and PayPal, PP gave me a refund.

In the other situation, the PO record said it was delivered, but it wasn't. He said/she said. No refund.

I wonder if that's available through eBay.

I can’t tell you the number of packages that were “signature required”, but delivered without one, or the times a package was shown as delivered on the carrier’s site but showed up a day or two later, or left at the street in the rain 500’ from the house. My personal experience has been that UPS is the worst offender, followed by FedX ground and only rarely USPS. Amazon is by far the best.

Btw, the stated terms of sale mater here. If the package is FOB origin, the buyer “owns” the product (and has responsibility for insurance filing in case of loss) when it leaves the seller’s dock. If it’s FOB destination, the title to the merchandise passes when the article is delivered to the buyer and the seller has the responsibility to file any insurance claims up to that point since he still owns the product. No idea what EBay’s terms of sale are.

Check area pawn shops to see if anyone brought in a camera, matching the description. If the seller or you have the serial number, have that ready too.

The seller doesn't sound like a wonderful human being

Why is this loss on the seller? He or she shipped the item with a reputable company - if anyone is to be blamed it seems like the shipping company that left the package at the wrong address.

Yes, until consequences are too harsh to risk the action it will never end. Good luck with your resolution. I think the seller is out of the loop since it was properly shipped and arrived. One inconvenient solution is to pay for signature required delivery so someone has to receive and sign for whatever it is.

LDB415 is correct. I always ship SIGNATURE REQUIRED when I send photo gear, and ask sellers to do the same. It only adds a few bucks to each shipment. I offer to pay the seller the extra funds, but no one has ever accepted the offer.

The seller has little responsibility in this situation.

You'll have to deal with the carrier...porch pirate...neighbor or not...

They delivered to the wrong address.

Outside of insurance on your part....the carrier is responsible...good luck!

I forgot where the thread was. I responded appropriately for the subject matter not for the location. Editing isn't available. Others have already commented. Wasting bits and bytes to beat the dead horse does nothing.
