I don't do Tik Tok, Twitter, Facebook, or any other social media sites. I don't need everybody in the world knowing what I'm doing every day of my life. If I want to contact relatives or people I know, I will email or call them on the phone.

Interesting factoid.
TikTok in the US is very different from the TikTok in China.
In China the entire emphasis is on science and education and patriotism...
No one in the US would recognize their version as the same platform.
We devalue...ourselves.
The algorithm in Tik Tok customizes your feed based on your own interest. So my feed is music, photography, science and politics. My teenage son’s Tik Tok looks completely different.

Yes, but different algorithms are being used by China.
Ours can be heavily influenced...theirs much less so.
They control theirs...ours is not...on purpose.
I have never seen Tik Tok but I read this morning that it is now banned on government devices in the state of Tennessee.

Speaking of wasting time, has click bait become more common online? Most online screens are filled with headlines that are trying to get me to click. Resistance is not futile.
You are not wrong in perceiving that click bait has become increasingly prevalent in online news items. Add what seems like hundreds of ads, pop up videos and those damn "accept cookies" messages it has a horror show to try and get the news online! Oh, and they more often than not give you a very small segment of the story and trap you into an endless stream of "Next" buttons which then take you to the next level of insanity. Worst of all are the ads or videos that follow your cursor down the screen as you scroll. Arrrg! I sure hope that resistance is not futile or we are all doomed.

Has anyone read the agreement you must agree to use Tic Tok? They track everything you do. Key strokes, phone calls, messages, photos... EVERYTHING! Go back and read it and you will delete it too.
The pervious president wanted to ban TikTok in the U.S.
OHH the gnashing of teeth!
What goes around comes around.
It's spyware.

That makes sense. I have seen two things show up on my Tic Tok which I don’t think should be there based on my interests. One is a bunch of anti Christianity videos. The other is a heavy dose of “climate change is a hoax” type videos. I feel like these are only showing up as Chinese propaganda.

I bought an OBDII Bluetooth reader a few years ago - it plugs into your car's diagnostic port and you can see on your smartphone your car's diagnostics. It sounded great - until I looked at the App required to use this Chinese-made system. You have to give it unlimited access to everything on your phone! I sent it right back.

you are absolutely correct.
resistance = voltage / current
FB is so misunderstood. You can manage your settings to get feeds or shares from only "friends". You can block unwanted intruders.
The algorithms respond to what you click on or "like", so you would get feeds pertaining to your likes. I get feeds almost exclusively pertaining to my passions, and I do not "like" or "share" things I do not want to see more of. If something unwanted leaks through, I unfollow or block it.
FB has been invaluable for me to keep in contact with my friends who are scattered all over the U.S., where emailing or calling 50 or so people is cumbersome. During the Covid lockdown, I would have been lost without the humorous "shares" from my friends. Same when I was diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer earlier this year. A long-time friend in SoCal responded that she had had the same experience last year but had kept it private, and she supported and mentored me during my treatment.
FB is a great social tool for those who learn its workings.
I deleted tiktok when I discovered my camera was turned on whenever I was watching it.
