The rubber started to peel off of the memory card door on my D810 so I just peel it off completely. No problems using the camera as is but, would like some suggestions on an adhesives to re-attach if anyone has done this before. Called & asked Nikon service & they suggest I send it in. = NADA.

Thanks for any replies.

I had the same problem on my D810. I tried two different glues and neither worked. I just took it off and used it without the rubber piece.

I was going to suggest the same thing. However, there are several consistencies, and I would recommend the slower setting one. The very quick set is very thin and is runny if you are not careful. As a long time Radio control model builder, I have been using it over forty years. With this stuff, less is usually better than too much. Start with a corner and make sure it is aligned correctly and apply a small drop and rub down your cover. and work slowly as you apply it. If there is any residual adhesive from what came off, remove it first so you are starting on a clean surface.

I stopped using superglue for anything. On that I use a small amount of the clear, hard as heck fingernail polish that the ladies use. Superior holding power, and cheap.

I use silicone caulkiing for those sort of repairs.

It holds on better then many adhesives, it won't flow into places it shouldn't be and it doesn't mark up plastics.
It also can be removed without tearing things up.

I have used it to mount modile radios, GPS units on dashboards, a cell phone holder on my dash, plus covers and body parts on radios, sporting electronics and a whole lot more.

I keep a few 4 oz squeeze tubes of it around for small jobs such as this.

The only down side is the parts have to be held in place for several hours before they can be used.

I use masking tape to hold things together till the silicone sets.

For things like that, I like rubber cement. You coat both sides and let it get almost dry and then put them together. It forms a really good seal and the nice thing about it is any extra that might leak out is easy to clean up. You can just roll it around into a little ball and discard it.

Nikon USA in service repair parts you can still buy all the rubber fairly cheap. I bought all the rubber for mine a little while back. They even sell the pre cut double back tape below is a couple of screen shots I just took. Not worth doing any thing else except replacing them with Nikon parts

I used Aleene's "Original Tacky Glue" on my D810 memory card door with great success.

The glue that many professional camera repair techs use to replace the leatherette and leathers on cameras is "Pliobond".

https://www.amazon.com/Pliobond-1OZ-PLIOBOND-ADHESIVE/dp/B01N9ITO8S/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=pliobond&qid=1671213668&sr=8-2

Standard "contact cement" would probably work fine, too.

For some similar repairs, I've been using a double sided "3M VHB Super Strength" tape that's made for automotive exterior trim strips. It comes on a roll in various widths, is black and just over 1/64" thick, has a red plastic "separator" to keep it from sticking to itself, is easy to trim to just about any shape and adheres VERY strongly to plastics and rubber parts. I haven't used it on a camera yet, but certainly would give it a try when need arises... especially for modern cameras that use rubber grips.

I used that 3M tape to reassemble some wood veneered interior car trim that had begun to separate. Took the part out of the car and fully separated the veneer, scraped off some of the old adhesive, cleaned up with alcohol, trimmed the tape to the correct size and applied to one side. Then removed the red separator and reattached the veneer to the plastic part. Trickiest thing was getting things aligned because once it's stuck it's really hard to unstick in order to correct any mistakes. In this case I laid the reassembled part flat and put several heavy books on it for a couple days, to be sure everything was very well adhered so the heat from being out in the summer sun wouldn't cause the parts to separate. It's been just fine for two or three years now.

Hi. I'm Rick and a professional camera repair tech. I use both double sided tape and a special adhesive to re-glue the grip rubber on Nikon DSLR's. When possible, I purchase after-market grips with tape installed already from EBay. These are the best solution for most applications. However, I don't know if the card door rubber is available separately or not. It is usually sold with the door only and this would take some disassembly to replace. how do the rest of the grips look?

Just FYI My post above with the picture of the D810 card door rubber and the double back tape is from Nikon and are in stock I took that screenshot yesterday also Nikon is very fast to ship. They still have all the rubber with and without the double back tape installed.

Another vote for Rubber Cement. Having both surfaces clean and clear and fitting snug together is a big plus.
I have remounted at least two rubber rings around lenses that came loose after years of use; I am no longer sure which lenses were repaired since all has held.

Late reply this is. I used mine without it for quite some time & it never bothered me or felt like it would slip out of my hand. Purchased & installed the parts from Nikon. = Double stick tape & the card door cover from Nikon.

I have had similar issues with the rubber coverings on my cameras. First, buy very fine paint brushes. The item that was recommended to me by a fellow Hogger (Rick Riggins) is called Pliobond. It is relatively inexpensive but the odor can be overwhelming. The can top does include a brush but it can make everything a mess if used. A fine brush does the job with no mess.

I can also suggest using double sided tape but this gets difficult to manipulate.
